Reading through the CHADD correspondence this evening. I have an Elizabeth CHADD born abt. 1821 Yarkhill, Hef. married Richard VERNALL baptised June 1811 Yarkhill. They married Feb. 1837 at Yarkhill.
They had 11 children that i know of. Elizabeth died 1871, Richard died 1884 and both are buried in Tarrington, Hef.
Interested if anyone knows of this connection, thanks.

In 1795, Joseph Chadd the younger, was appointed the Parish Clerk of Bosbury.

I am looking at the possibility that this family could have come from Bosbury/Ledbury area. Does anyone know of any resources connected to that area to further my research?

Hooray. Thanks to this site I have a new date of birth for Thomas Chadd and can place him in Newent with his siblings and his parents John and Anne Chadd. I would guess that they were born around 1730-1740. If anyone can help with the drive backwards in time with this family I would be much obliged.

You have confirmed what I had researched so far. It is getting back further than 1771 that I am stuck on. As you say there are loads of Chadds in Bosbury/Ledbury but as yet I can find no link.

The bulk of the CHADDs seem to come from Bosbury/ Yarkhill and Ledbury just over the border in Herefordshire. Later some name Dymock as "home" so you probably have a family that cross the Hereford/Gloucester borders !

CHADD Family

Hello,
new to the board today. Had to register as this site appears to fit my needs perfectly. I am tracing my family tree and on my maternal side, the CHADDS, I discovered they moved to London in the 1860's from Hanley Castle in Worcestershire. Sometime before that they were in Gloucestershire and seem to come from Corse, Tirley and Leigh. I can trace back to 1771 and Thomas Chadd in Leigh who married Mary Broadstock in Tirley in 1794. I have found a whole bunch of Chadds in Newent but have yet to research their link (if any) to Thomas. I would be most appreciative to hear from any one who has information on the Chadd family or who could point me in the right direction.
