hi margaret,

from what i have established james simmonds was my great great grandfather.He was married to ann lerego 4 nov 1865 and their daughter clara married my great grandfather william ward.I also know of anns siblings thomas and mary.

Hi Jo,
There is a link between the two families.

My Great Grandfather James married his cousin Tryphena Simmonds born 1842 a sister of Abigail they had a son Elemention born 1863.
Tryphena died and James then married Ann Lerigo my Great Grandmother from Howle Hill, Walford.
Elemention appears to have lived with both families until his death in 1875.

My Grandfather Andrew Symonds also had a brother William they were both bricklayers, they started the building firm in Walford.

Your family also went to live in Walford, in a cottage near to a brick yard I think they probably made the bricks.

I feel sure there are many other members of this family in the Forest-of-Dean
The variations of spellings does not help.

I was very fortunate to have been given the family bible which was found by a lady in an antique shop in Chepstow.

The family listed under 1871 is my family. Fanney Symonds is my great-great grandmother. My great-grandmother's middle name was Abigal (we all thought it was a spelling mistake) and my daughter's name is Abigail. Do you have any more information on this family. William was a brickmaker.

I have a step connection to James Symmonds, born 1837 May Hill. Maried Anne Lerigo my gt gt grandmother in 1865. She already had daughter, my gt grandmother who used the surname Lerigo and therefore do not beleive James to be her father.

I have a James symmonds born 1837 in May Hill on my tree. He married my gt gt grandmother Anne Lerigo in Walford in 1865. He had been married before. From the info I have James was a stone mason until he fell off the church spire in Ruardean. In 1871 he was living in Badger's Cottage, Walford, 1881 Howle Hill and in 1891 walton Cottage, which James built. James died in 1903. My gt grandmother Susan Lerigo was obviously born out of wedlock, so no blood relationship with rest of family.

John Symonds the brother of James was my wife`s great great grandfather. He was baptised at Longhope on 27 October 1834 the son of John Symonds & Caroline Coopey. I have been researching these families for some years and have quite a lot of information. Please can you help I am trying to trace my Great Grandfather's family he was James Simmonds born Mayhill 1837. The son of John, a Shoemaker. The name was spelt Simmonds at this time it got changed later.
1851 census he was living at Hopeswell ?
with his 80 year Grandmother,Margarett Coopy Widow. He was 14 years and a Stone Mason's Labourer GLS Tainton (Taynton)Also in the household was Caroline Grand daughter 12 Scholar GLS Dean Forest born 1837.
