Hi Spike
Good to hear from you again. We figured that Stanley was not brilliant husband material but at least he adds a bit of colour to the family tree. Am quite charmed to come from the black sheep branch myself! Would love to see the pics. My email address is thompsonstwo AT icloud.com. Kind regards, Lisa

Rosina Ann THOMPSON nee SAYSELL 1864 (reply)

Hi Lisa, Great to hear from you, thanks for the information. The information about Stanley stacks up with what I've found out or heard about him. As far as my Mum is concerned she was always told by my Granny (Dorothy) that Stanley was the 'black sheep' of the family. I hadn't heard the detail about Dorothy sending the hotel bill to your Dad, but then I suppose my side of the family wouldn't be likely to relate that tale!
Christopher Thompson, out in New Zealand, was kind enough to get in touch with me (almost exactly a year ago) and if my genealogy is correct, he must be your brother. He sent me a photo of your dad in his naval uniform. Please pass on my regards to your brother and your Dad.
If you'd like to give me your email address I can send you scanned photos of Dorothy, and of Rosina.
All the very best, Spike (Neil)

Stanley H F C THOMPSON 1900 - 1958 Cinderford (reply)

Hi Spike
Rosina Ann Thompson was my great grandmother. My grandfather was Stanley, who died in the 1950s before I was born. I don't know much about Arthur but my Dad seemed to think he (or possibly his dad) came from Breadalbane, which was the lower part of the Scottish Highlands. Stanley's birth certificate has him down as a commission agent, which I think meant he just set up deals. Stanley married my grandmother in Northampton then they moved to London, where he was the chemist running Boots in The Angel, Islington. My dad, Peter, was born in 1928 and they moved six years later to Market Harborough where Stanley managed a larger branch of Boots. He and my grandmother divorced, though I'm not sure when and he died in a hotel in the 1950s. Dorothy sent the bill on to my dad, which went down like a bucket of sick I gather. Dad had by then emigrated to New Zealand to join the Royal Navy and had just married my mum. Dad is still alive but very frail. If you have any questions I'll email him. He still lives out there but I've lived in the UK since 1979.
Kind regards, Lisa

Ellen Saysell daughter of Samuel and Harriett Saysell (reply)

Hi, Rosina Ann Saysell was my grandmother, and I can remember her sister Emma (my great-aunt Em). I may have a scanned photo of these 2 (your great-aunts) if you're interested. I would welcome any info you've come across about Rosina Ann. Like you, I have her in various censuses, but can find no marriage certificate for her with Arthur Thompson. I agree with Harriet and Samuel as great-grandparents. All the best, spike

Arthur THOMPSON 1877 United States; commercial traveller (reply)

Again you've found the same info as me, which makes it doubtful (though not impossible) that by 1901 this Arthur H Thompson he was remarried to Rosina/Rose, with an eldest child born in 1896...
I suppose I'd been hoping for details of a marriage between Rosina/Rose and Arthur, but it looks like I'll just have to keep looking....
Thanks, spiike.

Arthur THOMPSON 1877 United States; commercial traveller (reply)

Hi, You've certainly picked up the same Rose/Rosina as I have for 1891 & 1901, which is great. Unfortunately, I have some doubts about your proposed Arthur Thompson, as he is shown as single in 1901 census, and only aged 24 (Rosina would have been 36/7). An alternative may be an Arthur H Thompson, married boarder & traveller in Castlegate, York in 1901 census. Birthplace Nottingham, age 41 in 1901. Any supporting confirmation or rebuttal would be welcome, nice though it would have been to have a US ancestral link. Thanks, spike.

Rosina (Rose) Ann Saysell b. 1864, Little Dean

Hi, I'm looking specifically for the marriage of Rosina (Rose) Ann Saysell to Arthur Thompson (commercial traveller). The marriage was presumably no later than 1896 (birth of their 1st son, also Arthur Thompson). Rosina (my great grand-mother) was the daughter of Samuel Saysell and Harriet Kibble (m. 26 January 1861). Any other info. on these Saysells would, of course, also be welcome. Thanks.
