I'm sure the 1881 census holds answers especially as Susannah was born September 1880. Just wish I could find it!There are interesting entries in the British Newspaper Archive and Ancestry regarding Martha Phelps.She was at one time living in a coal bunker, so perhaps she disappeared off the radar when the 1881 census was taken. This bunker belonged to a William White. Susannah's father is stated as George White on her marriage certificate! The 1911 census suggests she had 20 children. I am going to try and find who they are. I believe one was Charles who was in prison with her, and one died shortly after birth and a relative was caught trying to bury the body in the local churchyard in the Forest of Dean,under the cover of darkness.

Hello Jean, I am descended from Phelps/Goode, but unable to answer your query, although I have had my DNA done, which could help! My 2 x gt grandmother was Martha Phelps, daughter of William Phelps and Hester Wooles. I am trying to find out more about her. She appeared to travel up to Newcastle, then settled in Lancashire. Her daughter Susannah White (or Pearson?) was my gt grandmother who married John William Berry. I don't know if you have info about them please? Thank you, Caroline

I have in my tree a Prudence Goode born abt 1785 in the Forest of Dean who married a James Phelps born abt 1780 Abinghall. They married 16 May 1812 in Abinhall (record of marriage shown on this site)
Following information sent to me from America,(shown on this site) I am trying to connect the James Phelps/ Prudence Goode marriage to the Patience Goode who married John Herbert and emigrated to America. With them went Solomon, John Phelps father and either at the same time or a later date, the sisters of Patience Sarah and Maria (and possibly a brother who is not yet named). Mainly trying to link the families in this country. If anyone has any of these names in their tree I would love to hear from them.
