Hi Barbera,

I posted a message on Tuesday but it seems to have got lost in transmission. Anyway my grandfather William John Gardner was the WJG living in New Street at the time of the 1881 census. It seems likely that we do share a relative so I thought I might give you a little more information about WJG in case it may be of use in your search. William John Gardner married Emily Bower on the 25th. December 1869. He was 21 and she was 18. His father was also a William and they were both plasterers who worked at Gloucester Cathedral. Her father was a Samuel Bower. They had at least eight children one of which was Ellen. Following Emily's death WJG married my grandmother in 1901 and was a widow with four children. She was 33 and he was 51. WJG and my grandmother had two children one of which was my father. If you find out that there is a connection I can of course supply more info.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the info, it could well be. All I know from their childrens birth certificates is that their mothers maiden name was Gardner. Also from the
census of 1901 she was abt 25 so guess date of birth abt 1876 and listed as Gloucester as place of birth. Any other info would be greatley appreciated

Thanks for the info especially about Willie, I have the orginal Birth Certs for Ablbert and the other children, but not the one for Willie so that will be a great help.

Hi,

This may be of use and if so I can provide more information on the Gardner side.
My grandfather was William John Gardner 1847-1914. My grandmother was his second wife. He was first married to Emily Bower and they had at least eight children the fourth of which was Ellen born in 1876. Does this sound like the right Ellen?

Hi I am trying to trace my grandmother on my mothers side.All I have at the moment is her name Ellen Gardner and that she was born abt 1876 in Gloucester, I think she died abt 1940 when living in Yorkley Wood. She married a Thomas Davis who was born on the 21 Dec 1871, I cant find their marriage records but their first child was born abt 1899 and his name was William George Davis. Can anyone help?
