Following your email to me I decided to do some searching to see if I could make some connection, now that you have said that Joseph Baldwin & Harriett Bradley are the parents of Cornelius John Baldwin. I found the census entries for them (you said in your email to me that Cornelius John had a brother Stanley) :

Carrying out further searches I found a baptism for a person who could be the Joseph above. 8th September 1839 Drybrook, parents Cornelius Baldwin & Sarah. Residence Morse Lane. Note the Morse address and Morse, place of birth in 1891.

I would appreciate Slowhands view, but I firmly believe this is the right Joseph - who just happens to be in my Family Tree - his mother Sarah being Sarah Brain. I can trace Sarah Brain back a further 4 generations. Joseph's father Cornelius Baldwin was the son of Moses Baldwin & Lucy Marfell. I can trace Lucy Marfell back a further 7 generations to my 10 times great grandparents William Marfell & Elizabeth Fitzherbert.

The wedding certificate for Lucy Boughton and Cornelius Baldwin describes Cornelius Baldwin as a widower and 39 years old at the time. He was married previously, unfortunatley I don't know who to. The mystery is slowly unfolding it's taken a long time to get this far. I have been given access to a family tree that confirms that my grandfather was the son of Joseph Baldwin who was married to Harriet Bradely. They had another son Stanley, which was my dads third name.
I am unsure when Cornelius Baldwin died, but my mother said that she did see him once when visiting the Holy Trinity at Drybrook, where Lucy is Buried along with John and Sophia Boughton and Caroline Boughton my father did not speak to him.

Is the Cornelius Baldwin who married Fanny Hall the same person as the Cornelius Baldwin who married Lucy Boughton in 1915?
I ask because I note in the Freebmd that a Fanny Baldwin died in 1910 in Hereford,

Hi Capener,
I have sent you an email comcerning this relationship. These two people were my grandparents, although I did not know either of them. My father was their son born in 1916 Cornelius John Stanley Baldwin, after being adopted by his uncle and aunt had his name changed to Cornelius John Stanley Boughton. I new the Boughtons as my grandparents from the Forest of Dean, as we lived with in Bristol. I used to visit them up until is was about 12 years old. Laterly after Caroline died William came to live with us in Bristol.

Firstly in answer to your other posting, I live in Locking Village. The nearby former RAF Locking was closed some years ago, all of the Officers & other ranks houses have been sold. The site has been purchased by a Private Developer, all the old RAF buildings have been pulled down but it leaves some great open spaces for walking my dog !!

There are a lot of links between Baldwin’s & Boughton’s. Regarding your Cornelius Baldwin 1869 who married Fanny Hill 5 June 1892 Cinderford. 1901 Census below. Cornelius 1869 was the son of Cornelius Baldwin 1840 & Ann Bowkett 1841, married Drybrook 26 May 1861. Cornelius 1840 son of Edward Baldwin 1821 & Lydia. Edward Baldwin 1821 son of Cornelius Baldwin 1794 & Elizabeth Preece 1788.

John Boughton who married Sophia Smart had a sister Jane Boughton 1824 who married Joshua Matthews 1827, they had a daughter Emily Jane Matthews 1861 who married Cornelius Baldwin 1862. Cornelius Baldwin 1862 son of Cornelius Baldwin 1837 & Ann Meek. My connection here is that Joshua Matthews & Jane Boughton also had a son Caleb 1856 who married Ada Jane Marfell 1855.

I have census data for all of the above, but have just included the 1901 Census for the Cornelius Baldwin you mention.

You are confused! So am I! i have a Cornelius Baldwin in my tree who apparently has nothing to do with the Cornelius Baldwin i have in my tree who married Fanny Hall.

John Boughton born in 1834 and married a Sophia Smart (born in 1840 and died in 1909). They had a daughter called Lucy Boughton born in 1882 and died in 1916 aged 34. She married Cornelius Baldwin and they had a son called Cornelius Baldwin. She died when he was 9 months old and so was adopted by Lucy's brother and sister.They changed his name to Cornelius Boughton - just to confuse things. Nobody seems to know what happened to his blood father, Cornelius Baldwin (b1876)

Just to add confusion, whilst trying to locate the marriage of Lucy Boughton in the Parish Records, I found the baptism on 22 Feb 1915 of a Sophia Winifred Boughton, daughter of Lucy Boughton, father not shown.

I apologise that I am a little confused as to which Lucy Boughton married Cornelius Baldwin. I have in my tree the Lucy Boughton born 1882, died 12 November, daughter of John Boughton and Sophia Smart. I have her in my tree as her brother John married Clara Ann Meek.

Does anyone know the parents of the Cornelius Baldwin concerned ? I have 8 Cornelius Baldwin's in my tree, not necessarily of an appropriate age, but as names run in families, I may have a connection.

thank you very much for your information. Apparently she died 9 months after having her son Cornelius and her family blamed her husband. i am trying to find out the circumstances in which she died etc on behalf of a friend of mine.
