<p>ELTON, Nr. WESTBURY ON SEVERN<br />
Plough Inn<br />
Elton is a small hamlet between Newnham and Westbury on Severn on the A48 Gloucester to Chepstow Road. There is a petrol station on the A48 near the junction with the A4151 to Littledean and Cinderford. This is known today as Elton Corner. Map reference SO 704138. Postal code GL14 1JG.<br />
There are references to the Plough Inn in 1851 and 1856 but no other details. In the 1876 Morris Commercial Directory Charles Mitchell is listed as a beer retailer in Elton but no premises is given.</p>

<p>'All that part of the Parish of Westbury on Severn which is comprized in the <strong>5 Tythings</strong> of Chax Hill, Stantway,  Cleeve,  Rodley, Bollow (including Chax Hill Horge? Hinnegar Lodge, The Flat? Baze? Court, Blue Boys In,, Berry Court &amp; Gatwick</p>

<p>On the 1861 Census, District 3c - if you click on District you can read the Enumerator's handwritten route - in this case 'return along the Gloucester Road, taking all houses on both side thro' Claxhill etc. etc'</p>
<p>Charles is still living in Cax Hill, The Rookery -(Gloucester Road listed just above him and eitherside of  the Rookery.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On the 1851 census for Westbury my Willis ancestors are living in the Tything of Chaxhill, near to the Plough Inn, does anybody know where the Plough Inn was situatated please.</p>
