Woodside taken from the 1851 census HO107/1959/230/33

This is probably Littledean Woodside or Cinderford in the area of Bilson / Bilson Green
feels like Station Rd / Victoria St/ Valley Rd up to the area of the old gas works / iron wrks
10 pages earlier the Bridge Inn is enumerated, so a useful marker..at 138, Valley Rd
Cinderford, below St John's church
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/
co-ords 365023,212620

Colliers (Stand?) taken from 1861 census RG9/1755/44/1

This is probably in the Causeway Rd area / Heywood Colliery of Cinderford.
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/
co-ords 365761,214464
lat=51.8281&lon=-2.4926&scale=5000&icon=x

Plump Hill taken from the 1861 census RG9/1756/60/9

This is next door to the Gate House , near the Butchers Arm on Plump Hill
I suspect this was on the main Mitcheldean Rd below the Wilderness
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/
co-ords 366403,217805
www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?-
lat=51.8583&lon=-2.4893&scale=5000&icon=x

Merrian Street taken from the 1891 census RG12/2006/116/25

This is probably nr the junction of Silver St and Merrin St in Mitcheldean
Its enumerated not far from the National School and the Rectory, so in modern Mitcheldean this
is known as Hawker Hill ( actually the very first part is Merrin St from the small roundabout up) leading from the Gloucester Rd up to the.Church.
On the junction there has been a recent housing development, might be called The Merrin .
on this page we have the end of Silver St and the Chapel
on the next page is the Wilderness
so I conclude that this is the part of Mitcheldean leading out towards Plump Hill

http://www.old-maps.co.uk/

Visit and research re Baker family

Having successfully traced my ancestors back six generation to my 4th Great- Grand father John Baker born about 1781,I plan to visit the area for a couple of days and see if I can glean anymore information.
Most of the information I have has been taken from census reports, and I find either I am unable to read the addresses, or that the addresses seem to no longer exist.
I wonder if anyone is able to identify the addresses I have to be able to tell me
1. If they still exist
2. If the road still exists if any of the building remain, or has the area been
re-developed.
The information I need to clarify is
The locations of Colliers (Stand?) taken from 1861 census RG9/1755/44/1
Woodside taken from the 1851 census HO107/1959/230/33
Merrian Street taken from the 1891 census RG12/2006/116/25
and Plump Hill taken from the 1861 census RG9/1756/60/9
I have already located on maps Stans Pitch, Mitcheldean, and Gloucester Road,
Abinghall and I would welcome any further information on these areas, or of the Baker family in general
I help as a researcher on a local (Birmingham) history website and know of the advantage of having local knowledge, so if any of the contributors to this site is able to help me in my search I would be most grateful. It would enable me to plan my visit in an attempt to save me time racing about from one location to another to no avail
May I also say what a good site this is and I have recommended it on our own site
birminghamhistory.co.uk.

Many thanks
