St. James Church, Upton St., opposite Clement St. Opened in 1841 as a chapel-at-ease of St. Michael's parish. The architect was Samuel Kempthorne. Lower Barton Ward 1902.

Simmonds/Symonds was my grandmothers name and the family came from the Forest of Dean.
