Len PATER abt 1877 (reply)

I still cannot find a birth for LEN PATER, I have lost count of the many variations for the name PATER, I have tried to find out where he should have been in 1881, rather than where he was.

I have a theory I would like to run past you, it needs a very large dose of imagination:

1881 WANDSWORTH

Thomas PATER 1840 (Highbridge?)
Elizabeth J 1845
Thomas W 1867
Elizabeth J 1869
Ellen M 1872
Alice M 1874
George A 1878
William H 1881

Could Frederick Leonard PETERS b1877 and John Thomas Peters b1874 fit in this family, if they had not been staying elsewhere.

I have found some info on the postcards:

Leonard called these his home ports,

191? 25, Argyle St. St. Pauls, Bristol
1910 9a, Childeric Rd. New Cross, London.
1911 6, Nynehead Hill? New Cross
1917, 66, Bathurst Villa, Cumberland Rd. Bristol.
I have the names of the ships he sailed on,(and registration numbers)and a photo of the crew of the SS ROYAL GEORGE.

He is not listed on the Crewlist but an F.PETERS is,sailing in 1905 and 1906.

In my Grandmother's birthday diary, his birthday was 6 August.(not a lot of help)

Regards,
MJL

Len PATER abt 1877

Len Pater was a nephew of Arthur RUCK BRYANT (b 1854 East Dean)

The family background is very well covered in previous threads for 'Stephen Bryant' and 'Helena Bryant'

I cannot find his birth or his parents.

Census 1891 Camberwell
Leonard Pater age 14

Census 1901 St. Savior,Southwark
Leonard Pater age 25

A marriage between Jemima Elizabeth BRYANT to William PATER 1856 Camberwell is a possible match for his grandparents, but Jemima could have started life as Jemima RUCK!

Len was a Merchant Navy seaman, he sent lots of postcards to my family, 1909 to1923, he mostly sailed on passenger liners, many on the Bristol/Montreal route.

Can anyone help?

Regards,
