Thomas MEEK 1903 (reply)

Hi
My grandfather is also Thomas Meek son of Martina Meek who went on to marry John Grail. I have been trying to find more information as well but have come up against the same dead end as you as regards Thomas Meek true ancestry.
Could we compare notes at sometime?
What side of the family do you originate from?

old croft (reply)

Hi Alice,
this is spooky timing on your part ! :-)
I hadn't heard of Oldcroft until I "googled" it literally minutes ago while answering another query, just while you were posting this.

see map here
http://www.ukvillages.co.uk/Place/20943/Oldcroft-Gloucestershire

So as far as I can understand Oldcroft is between Viney Hill & Pillowell, both of which have Parish Churches as does nearby Parkend.
This map refers
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/maps/parishmap.php

All within Monmouth District.

--------------

I presume you mean George "Senior" head of this 1841 Household from above post ?

1841 Oldcroft
George Meek abt 1801 Gloucestershire, England Dean Forest, Gloucestershire
Elizabeth Meek abt 1801 Dean Forest, Gloucestershire
Thomas Meek abt 1823 Gloucestershire, England Dean Forest, Gloucestershire
Elizabeth Meek abt 1831 Gloucestershire, England Dean Forest, Gloucestershire
William Meek abt 1833 Gloucestershire, England Dean Forest, Gloucestershire
George Meek abt 1836 Gloucestershire, England Dean Forest, Gloucestershire

Unfortunately) this site's PRs give TWO equally possible baptisms for George (taken at face value, both in Ruardean not far away. I cannot say which, if either, is the correct one for your George.

I also see Gill Webb has posted
"George Meek married Eliza Davis 1 Jun 1818 Cwmcarvan, Monmouthshire."
This is out of the Forest area - I'd hoped to find their Marriage Record on this site which may have given parents, but sadly no.

This Marriage is on LDS site but no further clues I can see ?

Thomas MEEK 1821 Staunton (reply)

To add to all of Slowhands brilliant research for you, George Meek married Eliza Davis 1 Jun 1818 Cwmcarvan, Monmouthshire. 6 children in all Eliza Meek 1818 married Luke Roberts;Thomas Meek 1821 married Louisa Baylis; Maria Meek 1825 died 1826; Elizabeth Meek 1831; William Meek 1833; George Meek 1835 married Mary Ann Jenkins 1857.

George Meek died 1843 age 54 in burial record not consistant with 1841 census but possible parents are Thomas Meek & Sarah Moorfield [Marfell]? married 1789 Newland.

After George death Elizabeth married Thomas Lewis both widows 16 Sep 1844, incidently this is same date so likely double marriage of Thomas to Louisa Baylis.
