The entry for Violet says Westbury on Severn in the BMD transcription whilst her siblings were registered in Stroud. The 1901 however as them down as Stanley / Stoud, not uncommon to see the use of "ditto" marks or an assumption by the Census taker. Dont worry - if only these records were perfect - but then a lot of the fun would go !

with Marion born after 1901....( i.e. not showing in the 1901, and we have a few years to wait for the release of the 1911 data). Does that fit with what you know of Marions age ? < just re-checked -1904 >

Sherwood Forest is about 150 miles North east of the Forest of Dean.

Hi there Michael, thanks for your information and I do wonder about the last entry for the person from Westbury on Severn. If you check out my previous entry in that I stated Marion's parents were William Richard Howes and Clara Ellen M. ? I have since making that statement been told that a surname de Guise belongs to this family, could it be Clara's maiden name???? Apparently they lived in the Sherwood Forest - Forest of Dean area. Any help appreciated.

Hi, thanks for those messages but since putting the message on the board I was able to locate the death of Marion Clare Mills (nee Howes) in Sydney. She died in 1972 and not 1979/80 which was the information given to me. It states that her parents were:

William Richard Howes and Clara Ellen Maria ? presumably Cinderford or Westbury S. as suggested as the birth place for Marion.

Can you provide anything from the census' from 1891 or 1901 for the above names please.

Looking for the family of Howes From Cinderford

Hello, I am from Australia. I am searching for the family of Howes who I presume lived at Cinderford in Gloucestershire. All I can tell at this time is:
Marion Clare Howes was 25 years old in 1929 here in Australia at the birth of her second son in Sydney NSW. So...that makes her born circa 1904. The birth record states both she and her husband Harold George Mills, were born in Cinderford and were married on 26th March 1923 in Cinderford. A kindly genealogist answered my query that she was born in the June quarter of 1904 at Westbury S. Volume 6a page 309. I was also told that there was a Harry Mills born at Westbury S. in September quarter of 1902. Vol. 6a page 302. Can this be the husband??

It is believed that the husband was born in Australia and not in England.

Any help with the Howes family would be appreciated. I most likely will have to purchase the birth record for Marion Howes first.
