(Possibly a subconcious thing as sadly that site dismally failed to help me when I tried a few weeks, it didn't include some births that were on the FreeBMD site... )

A check of the death registration in the name of Elizabeth DOVEY on the GRO online index gives us this detail:
Name: Age at Death (in years):
DOVEY, ELIZABETH     55
GRO Reference: 1862 D Quarter in MONMOUTH Volume 11A Page 14

The age given is close to the expected age of the person sought.
It is also worth mentioning that a pdf copy of the entry can be ordered from the GRO website at a cost of £8.00 .

Eliza WALFORD (nee DOVEY) d 1862 (reply)

Hi Shirley,
curious one this !

as you know Eliza appears (to me anyhow) to have lived and died in the Ruardean/Lydbrook area, she was there in 1851 and 1861/1862;

Record_ID: 41668
Entry_Number: 5358
Year: 1862
Month: Aug
Event: Burial
Cause_of_death:
Memoranda:
Notes:
Register_Reference: P275 IN 1/12
Page_No: 171
Parish_Chapel: Ruardean
Soundex: W416

In 1861 she was in Moorwood, my gran's neck of the woods twixt Ruardean & Lydbrook;

1861 Census, Moorwood, East Dean, Glos
Given Name Surname Relationship Age Estimated Birth Year Gender Birth City Birth County Birth Country
Eliza Walford Wife 50 1811 Female Lybrook Gloucestershire England
Richard Walford Son 20 1841 Male Lybrook Gloucestershire England
Samuel Walford Son 14 1847 Male Lybrook Gloucestershire England

My experience suggests her death would have been registered at Monmouth or Ross. However, as you've probably already seen, I can only find these records, using FreeBMD;

Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
Deaths Jun 1862   (>99%)
Deaths Sep 1863   (>99%)
WALFORD  Eliza     Woodbridge  4a 439

Do you think her death may have been registered at say Bridgenorth, perhaps she was visiting family ?. Were there any boating people in the family, Bridgenorth's not too hard to get to via the Severn?.

Please note it took me ages to find the death record for one of my ancestors, a man living in Longhope, until I discovered (via the old newspapers) he died while working on the Hereford - Newport railway line, knocked down by a train at St. Devereux near Kilpeck (where the Inquest took place). His wife and family were in Longhope, yet his death was registered at Hereford, presumably by a railway or police official ?.

Do you know why/how Eliza died ?. Was there an Inquest or Will which may help pinpoint the locality ?.

OR, could this be her, mistakenly registered in her maiden name ?
