Malcolm FRANCIS Gloucester locations (reply)

So the Church Army hostel in those days was on the London Road nr its junction with Great Western Road, probably conclude that he was homeless and probably penniless at this stage of his life.

This is circa 1951/52 ?

Over the years that I have been doing this (!), the traveller locations that I have encountered in census data etc, around Gloucester have been Sandhurst lane/Walham, and the Westgate Bridge to Over area. An area prone to winter flooding

Gloucester's Mop Fair also known as Barton Fair was held on the Oxlease /Over Causeway in the early 1900's

Martha Agnes VIRGO 1888 - 1964 Blakeney Hill to Birmingham (reply)

Found this ???? copied for you.

SIXTEEN previous convictions
against a 53-years-old Welshman were read out at a sitting of the
County
Appeals
Com-
mittee
yesterday
when he
appeared for sentence
On
a
charge of larceny.
The man,
Gwillym
Morgan,
was sent to prison for one year.
A companion in the dock,
25-
years-old
Malcom
Francis, who
admitted two previoug convict-ions, was given a similar sent-ence.
The Deputy Chairman (Mr. P.
M. C. Hayman) told the prisoners that they did not appear to have taken advantage of past leniency.
Mr. J. H. Moss, prosecuting, explained that the men were committed for sentence for the theft of an alarm clock and a blanket from premises at Elmore.
On the
day
after the offence
Francis sold the clock for 2/6d. to a man in
Gloucester.
Mr.
Moss explained that at the Magistrates'
Court Morgan was said
to have been seen in the
City
on the day of the offence, carrying a blanket over his arm.
He at first told the police that he bought it for 25/-.
In a later statement Morgan declared that he had been drinking otherwise he would never have taken the things.
Francis, hig accomplice.
had
made
a
statement explaining
that
Morgan had entered the premises at
Elmore.
It was said that Francis had been living with caravan dwellers in Gloucester, but at the time of the offence he was staying at a Church Army Hostel in the City.
Morgan was said to have been reluctant to give information about his past life.
He had ser-
ved in the Army and in the Merchant
Navy.
He agreed that
since
1948 he had been
"living
rough" in
Gloucester lodging

Hi,
I seem to be hitting my head against a brick wall with this ???? he was supposedly born Malcolm Melvin Francis born in Cinderford may 1926, there is no record of this. I don’t believe he married my nan as she was already married but ran away from her abusive husband with Malcolm. The children they had were Terry, Robin,Melvin, Brian,Hazel and Duncan. I thought maybe the name of where he lived at speculation cottage would help but it’s all just a mystery. Thankyou for helping. Tina
