Rolfe BEVAN Aylburton (reply)

O thank you so much. Rolfe was my grandfather. David his brother married Gladys and lived in Fairlight in Hastings, Chris lived in West Midlands and one of his daughters Faith was my lovely cousin. Gwen married Luke John a preacher and Min lived in Sussex. My Grandad died at our home in Tonna, Neath . I was only 3 and a half but I have two memories of him. He missed Lydney so much but Clyne in the Neath valley is very pretty with lots of forestry. Bertram Bevan is buried in Rouen France killed by a German sniper while running. I think he was very young, cheated his age according to family members. My cousin John son of David Bevan has visited his war grave.

Court Farm , Clearwell (reply)

Hi there, I hope you don’t mind me asking but did your mum ever mention a Rolfe Bevan. I have a photo of my grandfather Rolfe with a Florrie Powell at her house with my mum as well. Rolfe was born in Lydney, he was my grandfatherand lived at Aylburton and attended the tiny mission church. His childhood friend was Florrie Powell. I have just returned from a weekend at Court Farm in Bream.
If this does not relate to you please accept my apologies. Clare Francis

Court Farm Newland (reply)

Just to complete the picture, my Gt Gt grandfather Henry Miles (1816 - 1904) was a farmer at Court Farm in the census returns 1851 to 1891. He had returned to the Forest of Dean from Wales when his father William Miles a farmer at Perry Grove died in 1842. The Teague family were also farmers in Clearwell. Henry's younger brother James (born 1823)had a daughter Eliza (born abt 1855) and she marries James Madley Teague of Trowgreen in 1874. In 1877 James Madley and Eliza have a son Thomas James Teague. I think these must be the Teague family members who are at Court Farm in 1902 and 1914.

Court Farm , Clearwell (reply)

Hi
I`d be interested to know who was at Court Farm between 1907 and 1912. My mother Florence POWELL was born at Coleford in 1907 and she told me that she used to visit that farm. She came to live in Newbridge Mon in 1912 so she must have been very young and couldn`t remember who lived there

Thanks Slowhands

The mapping system has turned up some interesting points.

The mapping system appears to be dated 1891

My GGrandfather family lived in cottages attached to the Butchers Arms. I always believed these cottages were demolished in the 1980's to make way for an extention to the car park.

Does anyone know if my thoughts on the cottages are correct?

Kind Regards

It was near Clearwell Castle - which was formerly known as Clearwell Court-
The prior entries in the 1881 appear to be Court House - which I'm 95% sure is what we know as Clearwell Castle.
