I appreciate this is a posting from 2005. Helen - are you still on this list? Still interested in this POLSON line?
Thanks also to 'slowhands' who replied to Helen's original posting in 2005 and did a wonderful job of transcribing census records for the POLSON family. You have saved me a large amount of time as I can now go straight to these images without having to search for them first.

I've only got the one Jane Coombes listed in my research, born about 1754. She's not directly related to me (I'm descended from her brother Francis), so I don't have any details of who she married. This might be a bit early for you though- do you have details of a rough date you're looking at?

I am researching my family tree in the Coleford area. My Great Great Granddad was James Davies and he married a Jane Coombes. I am having problems tracing their marriage. One of there sons was Frederick James Davies who moved to Wales. Have you heard of them?

Hi,
It might be possible that people from Palmers Flat were buried at Ellwood Chapel or at the cemetry in Coleford. Those are the two nearest that I know of.

The original Parish church of St John was built in about 1821, restored in 1862- the octagonal "nave" was demolished leaving the clock tower in center of Coleford. ( The octagonal shape is unusual , however a similar style can be found in Parkend )

However a new church was built in about 1880 in a more elevated position.

Polson/Polsom and Coombes/Combs

Hello everyone,
I'm researching my family who lived around the Forest of Dean- the Polsons lived in Palmer's Flat and the Coombes family lived around Newland. I'm looking for general information about places to go in the area to find out more- All Saints Church in Newland will be my first stop as my great great great great grandparents, William and Letitia Coombes were married there in 1815. I'd be particularly inerested in knowing where people who lived in Palmer's Flat were buried, as I'm stuck on a William Polson who died around 1871. His widow Julia remarried in Coleford in 1873- it looks like the parish church in Coleford has been demolished? There's about 100 years of my family living in this area, from 1790 to 1890, so any other information about that time period would be wonderful.
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.
