Hi,

I'm replying, almost a year later to the day, to your message following my posting the photo in Collection 1 of the Unknown Shop. How I missed it I've no idea. My apologies.

Do you still think it might be the shop in Bream that you mentioned ?

Thanks.

Hello,
You mentioned hop picking in 1913 and mentioned Ellen Lander.
Would this Ellen be the daughter of Albert Lander?
My great granfather born 1861 was James Lander and one of
his elder brothers was Alfred.Their parents were Edwin and
Mary Ann.

Henry Burns born 1872 at Berry Hill (reply)

Sent to us by Gill Newbury

This is a photograph of my Grandfather Henry Burns born 1872 at Berry Hill
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/gallery/berryhill/

I know I may be clutching at straws but I wondered if anyone can identify the
location. He lived in the vicinity until 1914 when he joined the 2nd Battalion
Monmouthshire Regiment and was posted to Belgium

The 1891 census shows him as a groom at Tanhouse Road, Newland, a boarder with
the Bowey family. He was only 18 at this time and he appears older on the
photograph

I would be very grateful to receive any suggestion

Hop Picking 1913
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/gallery/drybrook/

The photo shows my grandfather William Williams (born Drybrook) on the right and
grandmother Ellen nee Lander (born Cinderford) and family during a break in hop
picking in 1913

The child in my grandmothers arms is my father Arthur Reginald Williams. The
girl on the left was,I believe, a friend of the family.

The location of the hop field is not known
Perhaps someone may have an idea

Reference the unknown shop. My first thought is that it is in Bream, but I really have to make a trip to have a look to make sure. The shop I thought it was, used to be a Post office and then a car parts shop. I am not sure what it is now. Not sure if that is of any help at all!!
