Not sure I can help you much, but the Samuel DOBBINS that you refer to in the 1891 Census of Castleford, was my Great Uncle. He was the son of Richard DOBBINS and Elisabeth COOPER, and was born about 1843 at Cinderford. About 1880 he went with his younger brother Aaron (my Gr Grandfather 1854-1926) to Darfield WRY where he worked at the Houghton Main Colliery.I suspect that Samuel moved around in the coal mining industry, and I have no other details on him other than in 1901 he is back in Darfield aged 57, and living with his brother Aaron and family.

Amy Elizabeth Marfell's parents were Allen Marfell & Esther Ann Bennett, Allen's parents being George Marfell & Elizabeth Merrick, George's parents were another of my 3 times great grandparents, Cornelius Marfell & Rosanna Herbert. This was Cornelius's first marriage 24.7.1811,she died and was buried Ruardean 26.10.1817 his next marriage to Tamar Herbert was on 20.6.1818. He had 3 children with Rosanna and 9 with Tamar. Whilst I have the details for the parents & siblings of Tamar Herbert, I have nothing on Rosanna. Perhaps with your Herbert connections you can help me here ?

As the Marfell family is my main interest, I can tell you a little about Reuben: he was born 28.4.1851 Ruardean, one of the 9 children of Levi Marfell & Lydia Marfell nee Marfell. I don't believe he had any connection with the family he was with in 1891, other than lodging, he was after all lodging with another Yorkshire family in 1881. He had registered as a Forest of Dean Free Miner 18.4.1875, but nevertheless decided to try his luck in Yorkshire. He returned to the Forest and died 10.8.1902 in Ruardean, buried 13.8.1902 Drybrook, I have his birth & death certificates, he never married. Lydia Marfell's parents were one of my 3 times great grandparents, Thomas Marfell & Elizabeth Herbert, Elizabeth's parents being William Herbert & Martha Woore, this being William's second marriage, his first to Hannah Yemm. Lydia Marfell was Levi Marfell's second wife,(I have the marriage certificates to both wives) his first Lydia Bennett baptised 11.5.1823, died 21.9.1843 Ruardean,buried 26.9.1843, I have her death certificate too. Levi Marfell & Lydia Bennett had one child before she died, probably the cause of her death, although the certificate just shows "Decline", their son George born 1.7.1843 married Harriett Wrigglesworth in Worksop and died there. Thank you for the information Michael. As you will see I have not done any work on the Marfell line as yet but will eventually. Our very remote link to the Marfell family is as follows:
Lavinia Herbert born abt 1841 East Dean married George Dobbs born abt 1840 Herefordshire. They were married in 1864 Gloucestershire.
Their son Frank Albert Dobbs born abt 1884 Cinderford? married Amy Elizabeth Marfell. No date or place of birth or parentage for her as yet but as I say I will get round to researching this family. I do not have their marriage date as yet.
I was trying to find a link between the Reuben Marfell lodger with William Waite in Batley Yorkshire, as posted on my previous message. Jean Herbert

Emily Herbert nee Waite/Marfell

Following a lead given by Slowhands re: Emily Herbert. According to the 1881 cenus for Batley Yorkshire, Emily was born abt 1859 in East Dean. Her father was William Waite born abt 1834 Down Hatherley Gloucestershire (age on 1881 census 47). Her mother was Eliza Waite age 59 (no maiden name available but born abt 1835 Newham Gloucestershire.)
I now know that Emily's husband Arthur died in 1900 in Dewsbury Yorkshire but I am still trying to find what happened to Emily. I cannot find her on the 1901 cenus and would have thought that as her husband died only a year previously, she would not have married again, but one never knows. The reference provided by Slowhands is the nearest I have found, the only problem is that the birth year and place of birth are different.
I decided to look on the 1901 Census for her father to see if she was living with him. She was not found with him but some interesting results appeared.
