Thank you for your research and thoughts. I think CDCL does stand for Cinderford & District Cribbage League. The front of the fob has an inset of rose gold so they must have had funds. The newspaper article looks interesting so I will follow it up. Joseph Simmonds was the son of Joseph and Dinah nee Morgan of Cinderford.

Cinderford District Cribbage League?

Hi Harry, do you know if there was one ?
I ask as I searched the Glos papers c1930s in the BNA site for Crib, Darts and even Dominoes (was that played in the Forest, more north country methinks?). Admittedly I was trying to tie the "D" to a sport as well as the "C", but now I think it more likely the "D" is for District, as you say. Those initial BNA hits seemed to suggest that Crib was gaining popularity in the mid 30s onwards, when there was definitely a FoD League. However I don't have a subscription so cannot read the full articles. Thinking about it again, logically this would suggest there maybe other, smaller local Leagues running before a Forest one started ?.

IF (?) our Joseph was in the Tidenham/Beachley area in the 30s as per the Marriage Record(which hopefully is his?), then could it have been a Chepstow League ? Revisiting BNA gives this hit for that area and the right year,

"CRIBBAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS The finals for the County British Legion whist and cribbago championships were played off at Sharpness, when the Lydney Branch ..."

My first guess for C.D.C.L. in this case would be something like "Chepstow & District Cricket League", which sadly I don't think ever existed...
But a local sporting win seems unlikely for a potentially expensive silver item such as this, especially a team event, altho the date does suggest it's an annual award. Seems more like a medal of honour, bravery award etc. Doesn't appear to relate to a significant age milestone, nor a long-service award given his fairly young age in 1931. If he was an iron-worker in Beachley, is this relevant ?. Army Apprentices College perhaps, or even the WW1 National Shipyard that preceded it, Joseph would have just been old enough to work there ?.
