Timothy YEMM & Mary PARSONS Descendants (reply)

Reporter,
I can elaborate a little to help with your question about Miriam Matilda (Yemm) Crone Probyn.

Miriam was born July 1869 (I saw on Ancestry.com) & I have to assume in Drybrook. Her parents are Timothy Yemm & Mary Parsons who were married 7Apr1871 at Drybrook Parish (found on this site). Then they had Susannah in 22Dec1871 & by 1880 they were in Fulton County, Illinois.

Miriam was first married to William Burgdorff Crone and had 6 children. He passed away in 1920 and she married Fred Probyn & he passed in 1926. I have tracked Miriam Probyn to Peoria, Illinois in 1930 living with her daughter, Ella McLaren. In 1935 she is living back in Peoria and that is the last I have of her. Someone on the internet claims she died over there in Gloucestershire, England in 1936 but I don't know where to get obituaries over there to verify that.

I hope this helps find her, and please let me know if you do!!!
Cathy

Timothy YEMM & Mary PARSONS Descendants (reply)

Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763–1900

Groom Bride Date Vol./Page License No. County

GAGG, WILLIAM YEMM, ELIZABETH 1886-06-11 00F/0007 00000133 FULTON
CRONE, WILLIAM B YEMM, MARIAM MATILDA 1890-03-27 00F/0076 00000097 FULTON
SMART, JAMES H YEMM, MIRIAM 1893-04-19 00F/0138 00000105 FULTON
BLANCH, JOHN YEMM, SUSANAH 1890-01-01 00F/0072 00000001 FULTON

------------------------------------------
So TWO Miriam (sic) Yemms......The one who married James Smart has 1889/1890 as date of immigration in 1900/10/20 censuses, whilst the other one, dau of Timothy, was living with the family in Illinois in 1880. The only other Miriam Yemm I can find is dau of Lydia, a widow, in 1881 England census - but can't find the family in 1871 to hopefully give father.
------------------------------------------
From the obit of Tim, there is a daughter Mary Probyn - if this was Mirium, and her first husband was Probyn and then she married Crone and/or Smart she would not still be called Probyn.....??????

Light shedders welcomed!

Regards
Bob

Timothy YEMM & Mary PARSONS Descendants (reply)

I have a Timothy YEMM & Mary PARSONS who came to Illinois. I am researching the James Parsons & Theophila Meredith family (Mary's parents). Mary's brother, James Sidney, is my husbands great-grandfather. I have other documents and photos if you are interested.

Timothy Yemm's obits:
Timothy Yemm, Old Time Cuba Resident is Dead
Tim Yemm, a resident of Cuba for nearly fifty years, died at the Fulton county home about 10:30 Monday morning from heart trouble, from which he had suffered for several months. He lacked one day of being eighty-three years of age.
He was born May 27, 1847, in Gloucestershire, England. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Probyn, who used to conduct a restaurant in Canton but is now a resident of Peoria. There is also one granddaughter living. Mrs. Lloyd Tindall, 116 Martin avenue, Canton.
In his younger days, when his wife was living, Tim lived north of town and was noted for his generosity and free heartedness, so much that he was often imposed upon. His wife died about twenty-three years ago and after that the old man fell in hard lines and lost about all he had, finally making his home at the county Farm in the winter and spending the summer at his place north of town, but lately he has been too feeble to live alone.
The body was brought to the Taylor memorial chapel, where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Langdon, Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock and burial was beside his wife in Cuba cemetery.

Tim Yemm
Funeral services for Tim Yemm, who died at the County Home Monday, were to be held this afternoon at the Taylor Memorial Chapel, Rev. Langdon conducting the service. Coming from England about 50 (hard to read this number) years ago when there was such a heavy influx of English coal miners to this country for 30 years he was a well-known and prosperous citizen of Cuba. Noted for his generosity and free heartedness, he was often imposed on, but he always took it good naturedly. His wife died more thank 20 years ago and since that time the old man had gradually lost all he had. The last two years he had lived at the county home. He lacked one day of being 83 years old.

Marriage of Thomas YEMM & Eliza MEEK 1866 (reply)

Sorry to be a bit late responding, but I have been away and a little busy.
I am trying to catch up with entries since I went away to Australia on 5th March. My main interest is the Marfell family and of course Timothy Yemm's mother was Rebecca Marfell. I didn't know of the children of Thomas and am grateful to Chris W for that.
Timothy did indeed emigrate to Illinois :

1880 Census 11.6.1880 Cuba, Fulton County, Illinois, USA

Yemm Timothy 31 Coal Miner
Yemm Mary 31 wife
Yemm Mirrium 11 dtr
Yemm Susanna 8 dtr
Yemm Frederick 22 Cousin Coal Miner
Marfell Albert 31 Cousin Coal Miner
Stevens John 33 Boarder Coal Miner

He died 26.5.1930 Cuba, IL buried 28.5.1930. I have a copy of his death certificate and could email it to you if you email me via the web site.

Mirrium married a George Whittington born 1846 at Drybrook 26.1.1867, she had 11 children by him (I have all their details) and died 18.2.1883, the day after the 11th child was born. George then married Fanny and had 6 children by her.

Marriage of Thomas YEMM & Eliza MEEK 1866 (reply)

Thank You ChrisW for the Information on Thomas and Timothy YEMM.
I seem to have been looking around the Ruardean area as most of my Ancestors appear to have come from there. So Thomas going over to the Yorkley area threw me.
I do have a record of a Timothy Yemm going to Illinois in the United States but I am having trouble verifying it's the same Timothy YEMM.

Amos Baldwin YEMM's Children

I wonder if anyone can help me trace the children of Amos Baldwin YEMM and Rebecca MARFELL.
They had three children, Miriam Born in 1850, Thomas Born Abt 1845 and Timothy Born in 1847.
I have Information about Miriam who Married George Whittington in 1867, but Thomas and Timothy after 1861 are a mystery and it would be nice to find out what happened to the two boys after 1861
