Ancestors of James Bird (reply)

Hi Susan and welcome to the forum.
Hopefully Robin will see your post, but he's only an occasional user and hasn't visited for six months. I would suggest you send him a direct email which will go straight to his pc email inbox so hopefully seen quickly. Just click the blue envelope next to his username on his post above. This is a secure method if you wish to exchange personal details. I've just sent you one to demonstrate.
Hope this helps, atb Jeff.

Ancestors of Samuel Bird from Clutton Somerset (reply)

Dear Robin

Looking again at my family tree I think I misclaculated the number of great-grandfathers (easily done!) in my previous message...I think your Samuel Bird is the son of another Samuel who himself is the son of a William Bird who is my great-great-great grandfather and possibly yours! The next generation back, led by another William and his brother Francis left the Forest of Dean about 1780 to settle at Priston and Newton St Loe. But their cousin, James (bap. at St Briavels in 1770) was also believed to have gone to Clutton c.1795 in search of work in the North Somerset coalfields - it is possible that this James could be your direct line of ancestry in which case we would have to go back to Edward Bird bap.1672 to share a g-g-g-g-g-g grandfather!
All very interesting, even exciting.
I think there is a way of exchanging secure email addresses by clicking on the envelope icon but I'm putting this message 'out there' for somebody else to confirm the mechanics of such contact.
Regards

Chris

Ancestors of Samuel Bird from Clutton Somerset (reply)

Chris,
Yes please!!
This may well be the break in the 1841 census wall that I have been looking for.
If its of interest to you I was at the National Archives at Kew last Saturday and found details of a James Bird and his family on the 1841 and 1851 census's and wondered if they might be related to Samuel and his family as they seemed to live in the same road.
If this is a secure website person to person then I will let you have an email address on which I can be contacted.
Very many thanks for whatever help and information you can let me have on my ancestors.
Warmest regards.
Robin

Ancestors of Samuel Bird from Clutton Somerset (reply)

I believe I can help.
I have a family tree for the name Bird that dates back to 1530 in the Forest of Dean - principally Clearwell, St Briavels, Newland - with lots of limeburning going on. I think your gggrandfather (if I've got that right) was the son of another Samuel who was the brother of William (my gggggggrandfather)- I might have too many greats in there! Their father was another William and from there it goes back another six generations to Jacob (James) Bird born c.1530.

I'm happy to share more information with you but not sure how the email/telephone contact stuff works

Chris Bird
