Moses HILES is age 58, Sawyer, not born in County
Elizabeth HILES - 25 - born in County

using the Advance Search you will find

Children of Moses & Mary HILES at Ryford Baptist

Jane 1809
Elizabeth 1812
Mary 1815

These births are also on CLDS site (non-conformist register - Weston Under Penyard - Sophia GIBBS (nee HILES on the 1851 census, is age 33 and says she was born, Herefordshire, Weston)

FOD records do have a burial for a Mary HILES - Mitcheldean Congregational - age 56 - 19 May 1839 also Mary HILES age 24 on the 28 April 1839 (who could be Mary HILES c1815) - so the mother was probably the witness at Sophia's marriage in May 1838)

I am stuck on my research for the Hiles family. Sophia Hiles married Richard Gibbs in 1838 at Awre. Her father was Moses and in 1838 he was living at Blakeney, working as a sawyer. In 1841 he was living at High Street, Mitcheldean, his wife was Mary. I cannot seem to get further back than 1838 for information on Moses, can anyone help me please? Incidentally Richard Gibbs (my 3x gt grandfather)was a fossil collector for the 1851 Geological Survey and he named his house Fossil Cottage. The cottage, as he named it, still exists at The Plump, Mitcheldean. Thank you.
