Enos BROCHER + BROCHER 1880 Census Massachusetts (reply)

Lucy Brocher came to the US in 1874/75 where she met my Irish immigrant 2xgreat grandfather, Heron, and married. They lived in Lowell Massachusetts at the time of their deaths. I've never been able to find her immigration records.

I didn't know she had relatives other than her mother that came to the US. I imagined her father died and her mother came to live with her and her family.

Do you know where I could see Lucy Brocher's baptismal records, if any, during my visit?

Thank you for all your help! I'm going through all the info to piece together what makes chronological sense.

John Brocher's parents: William 1781-?, Mary 1791-?

Charlotte Banks Brocher's parents (as I have it but may be incorrect): Benjamin Banks ?-?, Sadie Dangerfield ?-?

Lucy BROACHER - 1853 (BANKS) (reply)

Thanks for all the great info! Yes, I am new here, as of today. This thread that turned up today when I googled in the past hadn't been posted yet! Most of the info I've gathered is from familysearch and ancestry from back in the spring. We are making our way to England (The Cotswolds) for the first time soon and I thought it would be worth visiting these nearby towns of family significance...

I don't know Lucy's middle name. But my research does show that her mother's maiden name is Banks as you mentioned. Mother Sadie Dangerfield Banks and father Benjamin Banks. I don't have any birth/death dates or locations for them and I can't go further back.

It would seem that you are also correct that Lucy's birthdate is 1853, not 1858. I don't know the meaning of her middle name "Long." I assume it is a family name for a family I have not yet discovered! I believe she left England in 1874/75.

I have to familiarize myself with how to use this site as it obviously has a lot of good information and helpful people.

Thanks again!

Searching Lucy BROACHER (Severnside) (reply)

Hi and welcome to this great forum.
Sadly I've only got a minute between jobs, but as I have no access to the subscription sites (Ancestry etc) I rely heavily on this site's PRs which don't appear to have Lucy, plus Glos BMD and FreeBMD which fortunately gives excellent coverage to our neck of the woods.

Searching FreeBMD for Lucy Broachers/Brocher only gives the folowing few hits which may well be some of "yours", given that I've searched all the UK records(on FreeBMD that is!) and they are in the correct Wheatenhurst area:

Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Jun 1853
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Broacher Lucy Long Wheatenhurst 6a 247

Brocher Lucy Wheatenhurst 6a 321

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/wheatenhurst.html

From GlosBMD I find a little more detail:

Child Surname Child Forename Father Surname Mother Surname Mother's Former Name Year District Office Register Entry
BROACHER Lucy Long BROACHER BROACHER BANKS 1853 Gloucester Gloucester, Frampton 5 471

Child Surname Child Forename Father Surname Mother Surname Mother's Former Name Year District Office Register Entry
BROCHER Lucy BROCHER BROCHER WILLIAMS 1889 Gloucester Gloucester, Frampton 15 83

Groom Surname Groom Forename Bride Surname Bride Forename District Parish Building Year Register Entry
WINTER Richard Sidney BROCHER Lucy Amy Gloucester Framilode St Peter 1915 19 No 1 146

http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/SimpleSearch.aspx

Hope this helps, I'll leave you in MPG's very capable hands. Meanwhile I'm sure you'll quickly find more useful Brocher/Broacher info on these sites. I see the surname Brooker is far more commonplace, and there are a fair few hits in the Thames valley region eg Newbury & Reading, I wonder if these are perhaps linked to the Severnside ones perhaps thro the Thames, canals or the GWR ?.

Lucy BROACHER - 1858

http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=36871

This is very interesting. If my research is correct John and Charlotte Brocher are my 3x great-grandparents.

Their daughter, Lucy Brocher, moved to America and married my great great grandfather who had moved from Ireland.

My records show the John Brocher's parents were Mary (born in 1791) and William Brocher (born in 1781).

I know that Lucy Brocher was born in "England" in April 1858 - can anyone help me with more specifics?

Thank you!
