Hi Frank - thanks for your reply.
The 'oldest' piece of information that we have is the marriage certificate of Thomas Workman and Betsy Williams in which Thomas's father is given as 'Swanton Workman - occupation - Engine Pipe maker'. Regret this is the only information that we have on the Workman family but would obviously like to find out more.

Thomas WORKMAN (1822 Walcot) (reply)

Sorry I do not have the Cert ( suggested as SWANTON elsewhere)

The wedding info is Thomas WORKMAN marries Betsey WILLIAMS in Charlton Kings, 1848. Both are given as of full age but from census info an estimate of the likely birth of Thomas is 1825 - 1830. The father of Thomas is illegible - probably Swanton WORKMAN. I guess he'd be born about 1800 and was an engine pipe maker (Thomas was a cordwainer).

Researching the WORKMAN family from Walcot, Bath, particularly Thomas WORKMAN, born around 1819-1825 in Walcot, Bath (St Swithans), who was a shoemaker with connections to Gloucester, Cheltenham and subsequently moving to the Forest of Dean. Also seeking information on his father, Swanton WORKMAN born around 1790-1800, an engine pipe maker. Would be interested to hear from anyone with any connections to the Workman or Swanton surnames in the Bath area at this time.

Martha WORKMAN 1856 Chaxhill (reply)

Thanks for such a quick answer!
Can I ask you something else - I have a copy of the marriage certificate of Thomas Workman and Betsy Williams in 1844 and am having difficulty in reading Thomas fathers' christian name but wonder if it might be something particular to the Forest of Dean. It looks something like 'Hoauton' or 'Staunton' - we are sure the last 3 or 4 digits are correct. Any ideas please?
Thanks and regards,

Martha WORKMAN 1856 Chaxhill

Could somebody please help me with the following query.
I have my great great grandmother Martha Workman's Birth Certificate - born 8th January 1856 in Chaxhill and have found her baptism on this site with a register reference number of P354 IN 1/14. If I want to look for siblings of Martha would they have this same reference number as there seem to be a Thomas and Elizabeth and a Thomas and Betsy around the same time but with different references? (P354 IN 1/15)
Thanks.
Pamela
