There's hope yet: I have today learned that there is a project called Ireland's Virtual Records Treasury being compiled to try and retrieve some of the information lost, see:

Sorry to have to say that a lot were destroyed in 1922 when they were blown up, it's a nightmare looking for them but the Irish National Archives has started to put what it has on line and the information can be searched at no charge, see: http://www.genealogy.nationalarchives.ie/
If you know what part of Ireland they came from and look at a range of spellings for the name you might find something but don't build up your hopes too high!

The British Newspaper Archive covers all of Ireland. It can be free-searched and short term subs are available.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if there is anyone on this forum that has some experience trying to trace irish family members or have experience with different irish names?
I have been trying findmypast and ancestry and not getting much luck. Is there anyone who could give me some pointers? Would be very grateful.
