Cinderford Churchyard (reply)

Better to go sooner than later. The grass grows high in summer and is not cut when I have been. There is a plan, although I never got to see it. I have some headstones there (In Soudley Pics. Griffiths).

Cinderford St John Churchyard (reply)

I'm not aware of a readily available "map" for the graveyard. However,I did find mine ( after getting a reference from, I think the Warden , 10 years or so ago)..

The graves are "ordered" from the north west corner,i.e. plot 1,1 is in the north west corner,( Bilson end looking out across Valley road towards Lightmoor and the Dilke) and plot 6,23 would be the sixth row Eastward, and 23 plots South towards Cinderford Bridge(!)

useful links :-

Cinderford Churchyard

My name is John Powell and I can be contacted on hjohnpowell@hotmail.com
My great great grandfather George Powell was buried in Cinderford Churchyard on 19th August 1876. I was very pleased to obtain this information that was recently added to the Forest of Dean Family History website.
I would like to visit the churchyard and try to find his grave. I appreciate that there may not be a headstone. Has a full survey of gravestones been done for this churchyard?
I would also like to know who I could contact (Vicar or Churchwarden?) in order to find out where the burial took place (i.e. plot number).
