General--marriage certificate anomalies (reply)

It certainly is unusual for both the Bride and Groom having different surnames to their father. Could it be that both were born out of wedlock and adopted their mothers surname!

In looking at other Lydbrook marriages entries for the same year I could not see and similar anomalies for any of the marriages.

General--marriage certificate anomalies

Hi all
Ive received a copy of my grt/grt/grandfathers marriage certificate 1865 at Lydbrook Parish church (also see at MEMBERS AREA: 1865 FISHER THOMAS MARRIAGE LYDBROOK) and it has got me confused. It shows the bride and grooms fathers as different surnames ie. Thomas Fisher/ Emily White whos fathers show as George Combes and Thomas Allaway. Was there a practice to use mothers maiden names ie. it would be George Combes-Fisher and Thomas Allaway-White or could they both have stood in because co-incidentally both fathers where deceased.?
Thanks in anticipation
John Fisher
