Using the back button (reply)

Well, I've changed the way the search pages are fed in and your search details
are now retained when using Internet Explorer's back button - like they used to
be.

Minor nuisance (reply)

Jim and S

The two minor concerns you mention are both browser related and are not caused by the Web site.

Previously the search form was on a static html page and so were a number of other other pages for Members Area and the whole Members Area was getting to a stage where we had to go to a better way of doing it all.

The Members Web site is now using a CMS program to deliver the web pages. It is now far more manageable and efficient than it was before and we will be able to easily update and handle the increased usage which we getting all the time.

When using the search form some web browsers will display the form details of what has been entered previously when returning to the page using the back button, others will not.

Internet Explorer will not retain the information.

The Apple Safari browser does retain the information and you will also find that this browser really does fly and is very sleek. (Though I will admit at being somewhat prejudice with Macintosh being my favourite operating system.)
http://www.apple.com/safari/download/

Your other concern of the browser remembering your username and password can easily be fixed. I assume you are using Internet Explorer, if so go to Internet Options -> Content -> AutoComplete Settings and make sure all the four boxes you see there are checked. These details are for IE 7, from memory IE 6 is the same or similar. It would be advisable at the same time to delete your cookies and other stored information the browser collects. Close your browser, restart your browser and that function will work for you.

New Members Web site (reply)

Jim

I'm seeing similar behaviour - I'm also fussy about cookies so my "protection" software may be getting in the way.

Admin, In the bigger picture its just a niggle :-)

regards
S

New Members Web site (reply)

Since changing over to the new web site, I have noted a change that is a bit of a (minor) nuisance, and can no doubt be easily corrected.

When searching the parish records, if you are searching for say a marriage of a Roberts, you used to be able to select the surname, enter a requirement for marriage, all parishes, with a range of plus or minus 10 years, then if the correct one not found, you could opt to return to the previous page, or select back arrow, and the previously selected search criteria was still there. If continuing to search using the same surname and details you could then alter just "say" the year or christian name and search again. Now you have to enter all details for every search, as returning to the previous page has all fields blank.

Remember me - for log in passwords also doesn't work.

I feel almost guilty at pointing out such minor problems when the facility is so useful, but thought that perhaps this teething problem could be resolved if you knew about it.

Regards

Jim Ashton

I never received my password (reply)

A number of people mainly with AOL email address have not received their
password by email from us after filling out the Sign-up registration form.

Our registration program creates the e-mail immediately and it should get to you
quickly. Give it at least a few hours before you decide it's not going to get to
you.

If you, or your email client, or your email server, or your ISP has a
misconfigured anti-spam filter you might not be able to receive an answer from
us!

If you have checked your own spam mailbox and the email is not there I would
suggest you try again using the Forgot Details form on the Members Web site. If
again the email does not get to you, I suggest you contact your ISP as I am sure
the problem is with them.

If after taking all steps that are suggested above, you have still not resolved
your problem, please go to the Contact Us page on the Web site and Use the "Help
and Support - Members Area" contact form and we will sort something out for you.

When using the Support contact form make sure you make a note of the ticket
number which you will see once your request is completed.

If we can't reach you by email we won't be able to tell you that we can't reach
you and you will need this ticket number to go back to the form and view
our reply.

New Members Web site

Members Web site
http://members.forest-of-dean.net/

The popularity of the Forest of Dean Family History Web site continues to grow
each day. During the past year over 2,000 people have registered for the Members
Area which contains the transcribed Parish and Non-conformist records of the
Forest of Dean.

We are continually adding to the database and our aim is to make available the
transcribed, Baptism, Marriage and Burial records of all the Parish Churches and
Non-conformist Chapels within the Forest of Dean. Plus many bordering
Herefordshire Parish Church records.

In order to successfully cater for the additional data and demand in viewing the
records, a new Web Site has been established for this purpose.

For those of you who were registered with the previous Members Area, you will
have to do a new Sign-Up as we are using a new registration system. This means
that your old username and password will no longer work until you do a new
registration. Sorry, for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you have any difficulties logging into the site, please make sure you have
read the Help FAQ pages before asking for assistance as it will often answer the
question(s) you might have. This will save yourself and others a lot of time.
