Lewis family (reply)

I think the 1894 marriage of a John LEWIS to an Esther Ann DAVIES which I posted earlier is a complete red herring. This looks a better scenario. All from GR.

GR 1871 Census, Monmouth, Buckholt Rd,

William LEWIS, Head, Mar, 37, Haulier, b. Linton, Gloucestershire
Louisa, Wife, Mar, 31, Dixton, Monmouth

Thanks Mike, makes sense with the Marriage date ! Wonder if there were more children then ?

Also for the placename, which fits my Pontypool records perfectly.

"PONTRHYDYRUN, in the parish of Llanfrechfa, it is a station on the Eastern Valleys branch of the Monmouthshire railway, 2 miles from Pontypool."

If the number of years of the marriage in 1911 could be read as 17 instead of 12 (possible and rather more reasonable) that would place it c1894. This is, at least, a possibility,

The most likely Baptism for this Edwin that I can see in this site's PRs is;

This looks like the same family you found in the 1871 Census ?.

FreeBMD births for Monmouth are as follows, the name isn't as common as I'd first suspected with only one born c1865, which rather confirms the above baptism is indeed our Edwin.

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

Births Mar 1856   (>99%)

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Searched FreeBMD using various spellings names I cannot see Edwin & Esther's marriage, odd !!??

Ditto the 1901 Census using FamilySearch ??

-----

Pretty sure this is son David's birth.

Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
Births Sep 1899   (>99%)
Lewis  David Clarence H     Pontypool  11a 155

Cannot find any mnore records for him, which is odd, given that Clarence is a rare name compared to, say, the numerous David Charles Lewis' etc.
??

There are several "Catherine M" born in the South Wales area at this time, vast majority are May and Mary.
However this matches Phil's name, and the most likely if still in Pontypool;

Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
Births Sep 1900   (>99%)
LEWIS Catherine Maud Pontypool 11a 175

Due to FreeBMD only quoting "Catherine M" after 1911, cannot find her marriage etc with any certainty.
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Oddly, cannot find any records at all for son Reginald ??
