Charles Symonds Marriage to Ann Beard Dymock 1856 (reply)

This was fun to read!

The witnesses at your ancestor's wedding were my ancestors!

Witness_1: Mark of Silas Edwin Williams
Witness_2: Sarah Williams

Silas and Sarah Williams were from the Newent/Dymock area, they emigrated in 1868 to Minnesota. Silas could not sign his name (hence the mark), but Sarah had beautiful handwriting.

There are lots of records for Gloucester and Worcester on it ,no wonder I couldn't find owt, the border situation probably had something to do with it I never was any good at geography!

BEARD/SYMONDS (reply)

Hi Birks,
don't forget this area straddles the Herefordshire & Glos border, also wrt Censuses etc Redmarley was considered Worcestershire until the 1930s, now Glos; so they may not have travelled very far at all !!.
The Genuki page for Redmarley is particularly informative, including some Census transcripts.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/GLS/RedmarleydAbitot/

Also see http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/newent.html

Please note I've updated the above Baptisms to show the mothers were all BEARD.

That is the right family, as they are listed as not born in county it could explain why I couldn't find them.

I am not sure that matches.

I have a Ann Beard who has a father named William born about 1801 and Mother Lidia born about 1811 on her baptism record from Bottloe Green Newent?

There cant be that many Lidias about, its the first one I have come across.

Married to Charles Symonds 1856 Newent, hmm.

Unlike the Marriages we looked at last night this one has parents AND probable family within the witnesses, much more helpfull !
HOWEVER the groom's father is given as Samuel, not your Thomas, does this make sense ?. How about the date ? There were a few other possible marriages but this seemed most likely at first look.
??

In case you were wondering last night, given the lateness of your posts I'd wondered if you were from abroad. Normally at late night the posters are from t'other side of the world particularly Oz these last few days, hence my attempting to help wrt the local geography. In fact you're nearer the Forest than I am, I live in West London. Of course ALL posters are welcome to the forum !

J

PS About the same time & area was also this Marriage, this Charles is a son of a Thomas Symonds. Is this relevant I wonder, hopefully you have the Census etc info so have a better view of the family setup than I have, perhaps including this possible branch.
??
May be one for your "shoebox" as some say:
