Your challenge with the IGI records is the mix of "parish" and "member submitted" records. Just to add to the confusion your trail might lead to Philip and Ann(e) as Edward's parents with a possible Philip as a sibling :-
< just be careful :-) >

Thanks for the lead. I look forward to reviewing my notes and file from my last serious research on the Astons - 8 years ago! Now I am resident in the Forest I really want to see if I can take the tree back farther in a reliable fashion.

Regards

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy

The 1851 census gives Edward's year and place of birth as abt. 1763 Newland. This is correct if he was 89 when he died in 1853 as you stated from the gravestone.

The 1841 census gives Edward's year and place of birth as abt. 1771 Gloucestershire. Now I know that this is a few years out but I did find a baptism for Edward Aston bap. 2 Nov 1771 Newland to parents Phillip and Ann Aston on the IGI and from my experience you sometimes have to take ages on the census or even sometimes headstones with a pinch of salt!

Edward ASTON

I can trace my family to:

Edward Aston Born 1766 Hewelsfield but there is no baptismal record in Parish Records, or Bishops Transcripts, or indication of parents.

Edward was Married to Jane Phillips 2 July 1799

Edward died 16 June 1853, age 89 and Jane died 28 May 1866, age 88. Their gravestones are at St Mary Magdalene Churchayard, Hewelsfield

I did come accross a close match on the Mormon IGI website which notes Edward Aston born 1766 Hewelsfield. Died 9 Feb 1853 but my trail has gone cold.

Any suggestions for locating a new lead gratefully received!
