Hi Stuart,
Not any sort of close relative, but my mother, her two older sisters and their mother stayed for about 15 months with the James's who brought up Frederick, Nathaniel's son, for most of his life. This was 1917/18 when Fred was working on the railways and living with his newly married wife Amelia in Newnham.

I do have a few bits of info showing some of the family in a tree, but it only covers 3 generations. It does however include the Virgos and the Colcloughs to whom I am related, via my mother's family, the Worgans.

I also have a copy of a family photo taken outside the gatekeeper's cottage in upper Soudley. It's circa 1906 and shows a teenage boy standing at the back, who I take to be Fred. These are certainly my kin. Nathaniel Tarling was a ggg-uncle so his descendants are cousins of one form or another. I'm aware of the adoption though not of the circumstances that led to it. Frederick seems to have been dumped on them. Are you related to them at all?

Hi I did a little checking on Nathaniel Tarling b 1842 who in 1886 married Mary Virgo b 1866. My principal interest was their son Frederick b 28 Jul 1895 in Blakeney.
Frederick was adopted by the Jameses who lived in the railway cottage in Upper Soudley.
