I agree it is not certain, but as they had been married 26 years and had no children themselves they obviously seemed to be boarding this child. I wonder if he was unhappy and thus joined up underage to get away from it alll?

He does give his next of kin as a Brother Alfred Frower of Valley Farm, Redbrook.

I had hoped that Alfred's wife was perhaps a FROWEN - but no !

The Attestation paper has a "lie" around his age, so again the next of kin "Alfred FROWEN" may be a distortion ....

Soldier William Frowen of The Kings Head Hotel Redbrook

T/4/094291 Driver William Frowen Royal Army Service Corps also as 26332 Private William Frowen West Riding Regiment. Later 407431 Private William Frowen 2nd Monmouthshire Territorials. This man does not seem to appear on any of the censuses he gives his date of birth as 4th April 1898. It seems he lied at his WWI medical and got in to the army under age but was found out when he was 19.
I believe from later documents that thgis was the correct date of birth.
On enlistment in 1915 he was apparently 19 years and 11 days old!
Any information on the family background or on this man in civilan life welcomed.
