Sonia,

Just remebered that a John Parry married a Elizabeth Frost (daughter of Joseph - Solomon's brother). Elizabeth was christened 15 Dec 1811 at Llantillio Crossenny. No date of marriage or death. John Parry died 18 May 1842 at Penrhos. Do you know if John is any relation of yours?

Frost family (reply)

Hello Sonia,

My Solomon was born circa 1786 somewhere in Monmouthshire. His father (Joseph Frost) married an Ann Palmer at Garway in 1775. Joseph also had a brother called Solomon and another called Samuel. Joseph's father was also a Samuel; this Samuel's father was a Joseph; this Jospeh's father was another Joseph and his father a George who was born circa 1600. They were all born in the Wyaston/Edlaston/Snelston area of southern Derbyshire. Joseph came to Garway in the 1770s and there married an Ann Palmer. There were four children born to Joseph and Ann at Garway: Thomas (bpt 1776), Joseph - my direct bloodline - (bpt 1776), Ann (bpt 1779), and Esther (bpt 1780). Then born in Monouthshire were Elizabeth (bpt 1782), Dinah (bpt 1784, Solomon (bpt 1786 - I think), Sarah (bpt 1787), and Lois (bpt 1791). The last, Lois, was born at Penallt when Joseph was at "The Argoed" or more likely "The Argoed Estate". The other may have been born at "The Craig", Penbibble, or even Llanthony. Near "The Argoed" there is a property called "Frostlands". I believe that was property of the Frosts. Joseph retired to Llangatock Lingoed circa 1816 and he an Ann die there circa 1817. Solomon worked the farm at "The Argoed" with his father. A number of daughters were married at the Old Church Penallt. If interested in more info I suggest you email me direct. I will be happy to share my file with you and others, but it is too extensive to fit this mode. Joseph Frost

Frost family (reply)

Hello Joseph,
Thanks for replying to my search for thr Frost family in the forest of Dean area. All my ancestors seem to have come from there. My great great grandfather was Solomon, and I believe his father was also Solomon and he would have been born about 1780ish. I have no information on the previous generation. I have done my family tree from that date and can give you that information if you are interested. If you think we could be connected would love to know what information you have. I still live about one hours drive from the Forest of Dean. Sonia

Woolaston church is about a mile from the village towards Chepstow. Along A48 from Chepstow, come through Stroat and shortly after reach dual carriageway turn left, just after picnic site. Ignore entrance to picnic site and take next left to church.
I'm not quite sure where the graves are now, but will try and remember to check with the churchyard map!

Was thinking about Thomas and non-appearance on censuses etc, and checked Alvington burials (joint parish):
December 4th 1829 Thomas Frost Alvington aged 2 years ... another sad one I'm afraid.

If Alice is related, wonder if she is in Alvington baptisms. Will check at the GRO if you like, unless someone else can find out first.

FROST family (reply)

Hello Slowhands,
Thankyou for replying to my e-mail. Yes you are right, I am also looking for descendents of my Frost family. I just got so excited about finding your website I got all my terminology mixed up. So I am still looking. But I have had a lot of success this week. I discovered that Lucy Frost had emigrated to America in 1910 and have now contacted a relative over there and have been given loads of information, so it has been a successful week. Sonia

Frost family (reply)

Hello Mary,
Thankyou so much for the information you gave me about the churchyard survey you had done in Woolaston. It seems you may have found the burial place of my great great grandfather Solomon and some of his family. It is sad they seem to have died at such a young age.
I was also thrilled at the baptisms you had found especially as it gave me the name of another member - Thomas - that I didn't even know exsisted. I haven't come across a Frederick or Elizabeth yet in my searches but I will certainly look out for them now.
Could you tell me if there is only one churchyard in Woolaston. As you can see I live in the area and would love to see the gravestones for myself.
I have only just found this website for the Forest of Dean, it was mentioned in a Family History magazine, and it is brilliant. In the same week I also found one for the Viney Hill area where some of my ancestors lived for a while. From that i found descendants of Lucy Frost who unbeknown to me had emigrated to USA in 1910. I now have about 20'ish living relatives all over America that I knew nothing about.
So thankyou once again for your information, can't thank you enough. Sonia

Frost family (reply)

Hi Sonia

I'm sure Slowhands will give you a complete rundown on your family, but thought you might like a bit more information on the Woolaston aspect ... we've done a churchyard survey and there are two stones that might interest you (afraid the first was obviously rather weathered) :

In memory of/.... Frost / who died March 31 1851 / Aged ... years / Also samuel son of the above died August 16th ... / Aged 22 years / Also Maria Daughter / of the above ..... Jan 14 / 1856 Aged 11 years

IN / LOVING MEMORY / FREDERICK C. FROST / DIED SEP. 13 1898 / AGED 8 WEEKS /
ASLEEP IN JESUS

Have also checked against some transcribed register records and come up with :

baptisms
1827 July 29th Thomas son of Solomon and Mary Frost labourer
1841 Dec 19th Edwin as above
1846 June 14th Maria As above
1898 Aug 14th Frederick Charles son of Elizabeth Frost singlewoman

Unfortunately I'm missing burials 1850-64, though they'll be at the GRO, so have only ...
burial
1898 Sept 15th Frederick Charles 8 weeks

Don't know whether Frederick is anything to do with you, but have included him just in case.

Regards

Mary Atkins
