The transcriptions of the Timsbury Parish registers (Yahoo Chew Hundred Group) has a burial entry for 11Feb1798 for Zibee (sic) Chivers - which seems a likely candidate for Zibrah. There are no other likely entries for her in the Burial or Marriage files.

Zilpha CHIVERS 1808 Ruardean (reply)

Thanks slowhands.

Doesn't seem as if there is a close link between 'my' Chivers and Joseph / Zilpha. In addition to the Midsummer Norton baptism, there were more Josephs baptised in Kilmersdon (1788), Holcombe (1784), Rode (1781) and Chelwood (1788); no doubt that's a small sample. Just a popular name.

Still a good chance that Zibrah from Timsbury was mis-transcribed but no reason to think she ever came to the Forest

Rebekah and Jane CHIVERS 1784 / 1788 Timsbury SOM (reply)

Sorry to drag up an old thread but it popped up on a search.

I can add a little more to the children of Josiah and Charity Chivers, based on info in FreeReg.org.uk, UK census, and the invaluable baptism, marriage and burial records here, plus the odd family document. Chapter and verse upon request.

Rebekah, bap 1 May 1785 St Mary's Timsbury. Married John Dayer (born in Ross 1778), cordwainer (shoe maker), in Dixton Newton 9 Apr 1822. One son, William, bap 25 Mar 1823 in Ross.

John Dayer died in 1826 and was buried in Ross 27 Sep 1826 aged 47. Living in Arthurs' Lane (aka Dean Hill St & Old Gloucester Road), Ross.

Rebekah married again to Anthony Jones from Michael Troy, 12 Sep 1830, St Mary de Lode, Gloucester. In 1841 and 1851, Anthony descibes himself as a gentleman. They lived in Dean Hill Street, Ross. Rebekah was buried in Ross 5 Dec 1851 aged 67 and Anthony 12 Mar 1852 aged 74.

Jane Chivers, bap 27 Apr 1788, married Benjamin Andrews 17 Oct 1815 in Ross. Benjamin was a blacksmith and occasional gunsmith (baptism records of children) and was the son of Benjamin Andrews and Mary Dayer, a cousin of John Dayer (above). Rebekah Chivers was a witness at the wedding. They had at least 7 children.

In 1841, they were in Chelteham with Benjamin being a blacksmith with William Dayer, Rebekah's son as apprentice. In 1851, they were in Coventry. I haven't tracked them further.

William Dayer became a whitesmith in Ross and married Sarah Robinson, daughter of John Robinson (timber merchant) of Gloucester and Fanny Weaver of Lydbrook. They had six children, moved to London and did well in the dairy business. William and Sarah are my GG Granparents

In another thread, http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?mode=thread&id=18664, there is mention of a Zilpha Chivers, b 1808, daughter of Joseph and Amelia.
Can anyone can shine any light on Zibrah or otherwise when and where the Chivers family came to the forest?

Josiah and Charity Chivers also had a son called John (1781) (my G4-grandfather) - among their 10 children including George identified here.
John also moved to the Forest - shown as a miner in the 1841 census and subsequently as a blacksmith.
Josiah (c1760) had a brother called John, born c1780 and their father was also John (c1731) but I'm still not sure where the link is to the other Chivers in this thread.

chivers/harris/roberts

Hello everyone,
I have been researching my mothers maiden name of chivers for several years.
My gt.gt. grandfather John Chivers came to the forest from somerset,he married Sarah Roberts in Flaxley 11 July 1840 and had a son Eli my gt.grandfather.
Eli married Emma Warburton of Rawmarsh, South Yorkshire, they had 13children of these was Horace Chivers my grandfather
Horace Chivers was born in Drybrook October 6th 1891.He had two daughters
Greta (1927 Warwickshire)and Constance(1928Wolverhampton)by Amelia Owen Jones.
Around 1930 after the death of his parner Amelia, Horace came to South Yorkshire with Greta and Constance(my mother).
I have tried for years to find Amelia's date of death/location.This is what started me on my Family History quest!
In 2002 me and my husband came to the forest and stayed in the Littledean Hotel we had a great time, the following year we took my mother and she enjoyed the visit.
My husband died in march of 2005 so the past year has been devastating
and my family history research was far from my mind.
However I now feel able to make steps to get my life together with I hope another visit to the forest that we both loved.
Whilst down there we were christened Sonny and Cher because we both have long hair and wear hippie style clothes.
My forest family names are Chivers,Hale,Harris,Roberts
