Have you checked out the latest Parish records - Cinderford Burials - shows John Marfell Trigg buried 8.3.1921 age 63. He was actually born 2.10.1855, so the age at death is slightly out, but that is often the case, as they rely upon information submitted by whoever registers the death.

The birthplace shown on the certificate is Lea Bailey Hill, East Dean

Thank you for the DOB for Jonathon Marfell Trigg, can you please tell me where he was born. My family interest is with his wife, Annie Maria Hamblin.

You are right about this site being very helpful, with Slowhands and Bertha's help it has enabled both you and me to extend our knowledge of both families.

Although my main interest is the Marfell Family, I do of course follow the children which result from marriages. I can tell you that Jonathon Marfell Trigg was born 2.10.1855. I have a copy of the birth certificate. His father Absalom is to be found in the other recent Trigg string on the notice board. His mother Sarah Marfell born 16.9.1831 Hope Mansell, baptised 18.10.1831 Ruardean. Sarah's parents being Jonathon Marfell 1795/9.3.1869 & Phoebe Meek 1795/1862. Jonathon Marfell Trigg had 7 siblings. This excellent site has now yet again added to my knowledge as I had no detail of his marriage or children. Thank you.

Gilbert is on the 1891 ! with mother and Grantley but transcribed as Lugg !!!
looks like Trigg to me but then I know what to expect :-)

I didn't know about Gilbert, as he doesn't show up on the 1891 or 1901 census I take it he must have passed away.

I'm a bit confussed by the Lugg family - are they Annie Trigg and two of the Children?

I thought perhaps they had an alias - skeletons and all that!!!

On the 1891 England Census Jonathan Trigg is listed as an attendant at the Gloucestershire Second County Lunatic Asylum

On the 1901 England Census he is listed as a servant at the Gloucestershire Second County Asylum (he is transcribed as Arafell Jonathan Trigg) I have taken the liberty of correcting his name on Ancestry so it may make it easier for future generations to find him!

I notice on the link you gave me about the Crown that there was a photo of the pub, plus a paragraph accompanying it. Just extracted a part of it -

"Euroclydon" (the house on the hill with the tower). We lived there with my Grandparents, the Marfells. In the foreground is Hawthorns Cross and to the left was a small pub, to the immediate right was Silverstone Farm which they also owned".

The author mentions the Marfell family. Will investigate this last bit of info tomorrow.

I wasn't sure if they lived there or not. I have found one set of rellies who lived and worked in an inn. Thought this might have been the case here.

Just tried to Google it and wasn't sure that i had the right one. Apparently there is a Crown Hotel just off the A40 would this have been it, it did say once an old coaching inn?

The Crown is no more ( at least as an Inn )

refers to the Crown Inn at Puddlebrook / Hawthorns, which could well be the one refered to as being in Hope Mansell - the boundaries in this area can get very confusing !

Crown Inn, is that still around today? It doesn't say whether Jonathan was the landlord - or whether they just lived at the Inn.
