Vaughans - Mile End Cemetery (reply)

To meet a shortage of burial places within the Forest the East Dean rural district council opened a cemetery on the road from Cinderford to the Speech House in 1956 (fn. 80) and the West Dean district council a cemetery at Mile End for an area covering Milkwall, Berry Hill, and Lydbrook in 1967.
Mile End Cemetery (reply)

Reading through the threads again I have just remembered, we spent a weekend
in Littledean staying at the Little Dean House Hotel, we went for a stroll
down the road and found a gateway leading to a memorial and then a burial garden,

Bertha I am sorry there were no Vaughans buried there, it was a lovely spot, maybe 50 plus graves all later dates.

I have looked on the site for the Graveyards and Cemeteries and this one is not mentioned. Would it be an overflow from the local Church? Has anybody any knowledge of it.

I believe the road it is based on is called Littledean Road, it is on the opposite side of the road to the Shop and Post Office, and it is on the bottom of the road, if you carry on up the road you come to Littledean Hill bearing right to Cinderford, if you take the left fork you end up in the Dean Heritage Centre.

It may be of help to someone who is searching.

Barbara.

William Henry VAUGHAN born 1856/57 (reply)

Hello Bertha

I am struggling with William Henry Vaughan born 1856/57 I know he came back from America sometime after 1892/93. I also have a record of him being in Cinderford about this time, I have lost track of him since.

So please if you can find any clues it would be much appreciated.

Barbara.

Mile End Cemetery (reply)

The main church missing from your list is Holy Trinity Drybrook (known as Forest Church). A survey of the churchyard was carried out some years ago by GFHS but I do not see any VAUGHANs in the Index.
The Burial Registers are currently being transcribed and will appear on this web site in due course.
As far as I can tell no VAUGHANs are buried at Mile End Cemetery or Yew Tree Brake Cemetery.

Mile End Cemetery (reply)

Hi Mike, thanks for the link.
As usual I'm looking for those elusive Vaughans!
I think I've exhaused my search of the Churchyards in and around Ruardean, so thought I may move onto cemeteries. I think the dates of the cemeteries will be a little late for the ancestors I'm looking for.
As far as Churchyards are concerned I've looked at, and found, some ancestors in St John the Baptist Church Ruardean, Ruardean Hill Baptist Church, Holy Jesus Church Lydbrook, Lydbrook Baptist Church, English Bicknor Church.
I don't know if you or anyone else would know of any other Churches in the area that have headstones. I don't live in the area myself, and I've found all these through Google. Are there perhaps any Churches in the Drybrook area?
Thanks for any help
Bertha

Mile End Cemetery (reply)

Hello Bertha,

Go to: http://tinyurl.com/rgbts
You will see that there are 2 main cemeteries - one at Mile End which I believe was opened in 1967 and the other at Yew Tree Brake which was opened c.1957.

Can you tell us whose burial you seek?

Mike

Vaughans - Mile End Cemetery

Can anyone tell me what kind of size this cemetery is, and also roughly when the first burials took place here. Would there be an 'older' section and a newer section? Also would there be any other cemeteries around the Ruardean Lydbrook Drybrook area?
Thanks
Bertha
