Burial of Alfred NIBLETT died 1976 (reply)

Hi Nigel and thanks for your helpfull post. May I suggest you also send a direct email to Anthea via her envelope icon next to her username - this will go direct to her inbox and negate the need for her to visit the forum to see your post. I say this as, by clicking her username, we can see she's not visited the forum at all since 2012. However her name's still displayed in "active" blue, which might mean she will be advised of your post anyhow, I do hope so.

Yes, you're correct, the Dean Forest Mercury archives are not available online so mean a visit to Cinderford to search them. I'll have to ask my sister (who works at The Forester) whether their Archives are ever likely to go online - iirc the likes of Gloster Archives for example are going down this route, understandably I guess these days to earn valuable revenue from the likes of the subscription websites ?.

I believe this post is still valid wrt the Mercury Archives situation, the Library is the easiest and preferred research method.

Hoping this helps and you make contact with Anthea.

Burial of Alfred NIBLETT died 1976 (reply)

Hi there Anthea - this reply is a bit late, and you may already have the answers you're looking for.
"Uncle Fred" was my step-grandfather. He was/had been a keen member of the choir at Christchurch in Berry Hill, and I've every reason to believe he was buried there, but I've been unable to find any headstone. That however is not uncommon. My grandmother, Fred's second wife Daisy Maud Niblett/Lee nee Adams was buried there in 1969 (I was a pall-bearer) and she also has no headstone. My cousins in the Forest also believe he was buried at Christchurch.
Uncle Fred had a very interesting past. He was reported killed in action in WW1 by machine-gun fire, but was later found alive and repatriated. My cousin still has a hand-written letter from King George welcoming him home.
Daisy's funeral was the subject of a detailed report in the local Newspaper (I have the clipping from my Mother's scrapbooks), so I'm sure Fred's would also have been reported. I'm pretty sure the newspaper archives are held in Cinderford at the offices of the "Forester". I'm not aware of any scanned archives.

Burial of Alfred NIBLETT died 1976 (reply)

as hinted by Slowhands earlier, it appears that Yew Tree Brake (Cinderford area) and Mile End (Coleford area) are the current Council Cemetries.

http://www.forestofdean.gov.uk/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=6863&tt=graphic

I see this site has a Grave Search facility which I guess is what Slowhands used ?.
The only Niblet/Niblett on that record is below, do you know him ?

Cemetery Yew Tree Brake
Grave Ref S30 "
Name NIBLETT Frederick Jack
Age 73 years
Address 149 High Street, Cinderford, Glos.
Date of Death 5th February, 1988
Date of Burial 16th February, 1988
Place of Death Dilke Hospital, Cinderford
Officiating Minister Rev Fraser

However there are of course numerous Church yards etc, hence my query did Alfred attend a Church at all, or know any who did ?. Do we know who organised his Burial, was it family/friends, if so they may have had a preference.

Burial of Alfred NIBLETT died 1976 (reply)

Hi Annj,
I'm no expert at all but I presume (someone here will correct me) that the Gloucestershire Records Office may know, have you tried them ?. I couldnt find Alfred's details on their website records, presumably as its relatively recent.

These may help;

http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/registration

http://www.ukburials.net/burialrec.htm

Do you have any clues at all as to where he's buried, such as that of other family members perhaps ?. Was he a churchgoer ?.
