(NB: see reference to husband Thomas dying just a few days earlier !?. Checking the Inquests I see no reason to assume this was anything other than coincidence, perhaps heartbreak even. That said there is a very interesting Inquest for presumably another family member, John Rogers of Pool Hill died 1871 through very unusual circumstances indeed !)

I guess after Thomas & Elizabeth passed away after good long lives there's even less to keep the younger generations in the FoD area, so perhaps they did migrate to Bedwellty a year or so later to find more work ?.

There still appear to be earlier generations of Thomas and Elizabeth on FoD PRs to find... good luck hunting !

Births Jun 1895
Rogers Herbert James Bedwelty 11a 138 chass

SO TO CONCLUDE, I may be wrong but the lack of local PRs for the later children suggest to me the family moved to South Wales, presumably for work due to Dean mines such as Regulator running-down their already small workforces until finally closing in 1898 (see document earlier).
I hope this helps, and that it seems plausible.

Frederick Rogers 1847 Newent (reply)

Hi, welcome to this great site, in case you wern't aware both this Forum and the extensive FoD Parish Records on this site are easily searchable. That said, I cannot find any Fredericks on here, spelt Rogers or Rodgers !.

But from GlosBMD site:

Marriage Details
Number of entries matching criteria entered: 1

Groom Surname Groom Forename Bride Surname Bride Forename District Parish Building Year Register Entry
RODGERS Frederick HARPER Mary Forest of Dean Drybrook Holy Trinity 1871 2 65

http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/SimpleSearch.aspx

This Marriage Record is confirmed by FreeBMD site, with same Rodgers spelling.
Sadly cannot find similar Record on this site (FoD PRs).

So, searching this site for Mary Harper baptism about 1854 gives 4 possibles, none in 1854, one in Drybrook;

Record_ID: 77669
Entry_Number: 888
Year: 1852
Month: May
Day: 30
Parents_Surname: HARPER
Child_Forenames: Mary
Fathers_Forenames: Jonathan
Mothers_Forenames: Dinah
Mothers_Surname:
Residence: near the Regulator
Register_Reference: P109 IN 1/2
Page_Number: 111
Parish_Chapel: Drybrook

Note: The Regulator is a coal mine near Cinderford, see map
http://www.lightmoor.co.uk/forestcoal/EastDean.html

It closed in 1898, see
http://www.lightmoor.co.uk/forestcoal/CoalRegulator.html

Of course this assumes her family hadn't moved to Drybrook from, say, Coleford where two of the other "possibles" were born, or Longhope....

Looking again for Rogers/Rodgers in Newent area abt 1847, I see some in Pauntley so near Newent which I guess are related. Please check them for yourselves, some interesting Records... Also some in Kempley, Aston Ingham etc. (when searching tick the soundex box to ensure you catch Rogers/Rodgers spelling variations. THAT SAID IT DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK PROPERLY..?..!.) Still no Frederick though.

Searching FreeBMD the only likely match IMHO is:

Surname Given Name District Volume Page Transcriber
Births Dec 1845
ROGERS Frederick Hereford &c XXVI 163 rcjones

(I assume the DOBs you quote are perhaps estimates only, perhaps fromCensus Returns ?)

From FoD PRs (ie this site), looking for the children:
