William George Johnson born 1914 (reply)

Good afternoon Graham,
do you know what William's line of work was, and do you have any address in Coleford ?. Are there no living ancestors that you can contact (presuming your researching your family/friends ?). I know so many telephone directories etc are on line nowadays, I guess you have "Ancestry" etc (I don't yet) and have researched this possible route ?.
Do you know where his wife Violet died and where she was buried, I guess not as they would presumably have a shared & marked plot ?.

You may well have already checked, but I cannot find any reference to either of them in the current council website for FoD Burial Records. However please note this site only refers to Mile End and Yew Tree Brake cemetries, not Church yards, and lists burials back to the 1960s or so.

http://www.forestofdean.gov.uk/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=6707&tt=graphic

That said this site's search engine is not the best and needs care, contrary to it's simple easy-to-use appearance the search engine doesn't find people it really should find.
eg the site asks for "name or part of name".
Enter "William Jones" (my dad) and it finds nothing at all, rather odd as this is a very common local name !
Now enter "Jones" and the long list contains 11 people clearly listed as William Jones..... ??!!

Personally given the nature of the website I find this appalling and have told them so.

Another website worth searching is this, it does cover Church yards and has burials from the C20th as well as earlier, however I'm unsure as to how complete it is as the site appears to focus on War Casualties.
I've searched "Coleford" & "Lydney" without success.
http://places.wishful-thinking.org.uk/GLS/MIs.html

If anyone has any other such websites for local Burials I'd love to hear of them, please.

William George Johnson born 1914

William George Johnson was born in 1914 and baptised at Coleford on 23 August 1914. He married Violet Maud Weyman at Westbury Register Office in 1931, they had 6 children born between 1932 & 1945. Violet Maud died in 1981 aged 69, but I have not been able to find William George`s death. There is no evidence that any of the family moved away from the FoD. If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
