Many thanks Slowhands. I thought that the Harry Stokes who died in 1917 was the best fit. I think I will have to send for the certificates to see if they give any clues. It is all very strange.
There is something odd in the daughter and son-in-law going to Durham with their mother as I can't imagine that the job situation was any easier in Stanley than Bristol. In addition, all those adults and children seem to have been crammed into a tiny terrace house.
