Sir,

In dedicating this small Volume to you, I am conscious of the unworthiness of the offering; but sincerity of intention may perhaps counterpose deficiency of poetic idea; and the purity of my gratitude will never permit a sentiment to escape my bosom, but what is dictated by genuine feeling and primitive nature.

But ascending from individual feeling to the Temple of Humanity, then will the name JENNER shine in meridian splendour - millions praying to the ALMIGHTY to pour the balm of happiness into this venerable bosom; and whilst his name is resounded in grateful paeans from the icy poles to the torrid zone, his mind is not inflated with pride - universal benevolence reposes in his bosom, and he still strays along the green-clad path of primeaval simplicity.

Accept, Sir, the wild wreath of the Rustic; would it were twined with the Lesbian myrtle of Paphian rose! but the rude hawthorn and lowly violet exhale the sweets of villatic nature.

With sincere wishes that happiness may reside in your bosom for over.
