... is only a few miles so there is a good chance of a link if we go far enough back, in fact the "Lydbrook" Virgo's are sparse compared to their likely cousins down in Blakeney Hill.

and Blakeney Hill, Old Furnace and Viney Hill are within say 1/2 mile of each other....

Wow! These look right. That is excellent. I have just eliminated the moorwood lot from my database and put this lot in because they look much more likely being in the right place and having tyhe right dates. I had this strand exactly as you have it for the latter half of the century but i did not have the correct people at the beginning of the 19th Century. I had the Moorwood lot instead. i wonder how far Moorwood is from Viney hill? Anyway one of my later people, Alfred, has Viney hill listed as the place of birth, so it fits. I must start looking at different types of records now i have gone back as far as possible with the census data. It looks like you have used the parish records to good effect.

Thankyou. this looks like census work to me. My new found friend Davey watkins, in Australia mentioned Thomas virgo 1836 son of Thomas virgo 1805. This is the man i want to know more about. If this is definitely his family then i am really interested in all of them. It looks suspiciously as if they are all my branch of virgos. I figure there are two ways i would like to go now... a backwards in time if that is possible ... i don't know how to do thatb finding out about the location and their way of life. i am looking at local websites from glos to do that.

I have a clue that someone who uses this site could help me trace my family tree. My branch of the virgos seem to have been based around blakeney for the whole of the 19th century and were coalminers. I would like to hear from anyone with information about my family or about free mining in the 19th century or even about life in Blakeney and the surrounding area in the 19th century.
