William and Sarah are my wife's great grandparents.
William James HATTON of Lydbrook was baptised at Drybrook Parish Church on 5 April 1835. Parents James HATTON and Susan HARRIS who married 10 July 1825 at St Briavels.
William married Sarah Ann MORGAN on 19 May 1861 at Newland Parish Church.

This would be my "favoured" branch based on the places of Birth and census records, all pointing to that part of West Dean at the top of Worrall Hill /Lydbrook, rather than down by the River.

Hi,
Read with great interest the posts re Hattons in the Lydbrook area and hoped I may be able to get some help...

My g Grandparents were Albert Hatton (b 1861 in Upper Lydbrook) and Cecilia Scott (b 1862 in Banff)

Albert's father was William Hatton (born approx 1836) and mother was Sarah (b approx 1838).

Now things get a little hazier

...and sure enough on the Monmouth marriage indexes for 1861 Q2 William Hatton and Sarah Ann Morgan are on the same page (certificate applied for)

Now... there are two William Hattons listed previous to this in the census records.

1) William Hatton son of Thomas Hatton is previously listed in this forum by Mike Gwilliam as having married Lois Powell in 1859. Therefore we can rule this candidate out.

2)The other is the son of James Hatton (b approx 1799 in Ruardean) and Susan (or Susannah in the 1841 Census)
