I have just used the Advance Search and just put in TOM for place of residence - there are quite a few - including

Emily JAMES - christened in 1845 - parents: James and Maria

This family are living at this address on the 1851 census (Tomlin)

West Dean 5b Page 31 of 32

'All the part of the Township of West Dean comprising, Cockshoot Inclosure, Viney Hill, Deadman's cross, The Slad

the places before the James has

Slad, Yorkley
Cock Shott

Mike, thanks very much. Those old maps are very difficult to read. I've pulled out a street atlas of Gloucestershire and found a small housing estate between Cockshoot Wood and Yorkley. One of the roads in that estate is called Tomlin Place. I wonder if this may be a reference to the same place.

Look in the top left corner just below Cockshoot Wood. It’s not far from Parkend or Oldcroft.

My ancestor Ann Fisher was baptised at St Paul, Parkend in January 1826. The register shows the family abode as TOMERLIN. Does anyone know what or where this is?
