Ok, I will give it a go. In reading both messages from yourself and Shirley of
how Joseph is connected to each of you, I believe that you are both of the same
generation in relation to Joseph (no removed business involved) and you both
share the common ancestor of your GG grandfathers.

My conclusion is that you are 3rd cousins.
(but will accept being corrected if I am wrong)

My thanks to Shirley for putting on this photo as Joseph John ALLAWAY was the son of my great grandfather`s brother. His father was Thomas ALLAWAY and his mother Eliza (nee PARSONS).So, perhaps someone can work out how Shirley and I are related. I make it cousin three times removed

This photo shows my grandfather Joseph John Allaway, born 29 Jun 1870 standing on the right. I have been told that the photo was taken in the garden of a pub in Ruardean (where Joe was born), but it is difficult to know if this is true or not as there aren't any clues and there are no drinks on the table!
Does anyone recognise the other two men in the photo?
