Gertrude Ellen Smith born 1904 Coleford

Hello
I am an Australian resident researching my husband's family. His Grandmother was Gertrude Ellen Smith (later Mrs Gertrude Askew), daughter of Thomas or Tom Smith also of the Forest of Dean. She had at least two siblings, brothers Bert and Mart
As you can imagine Smith is a difficult name to research on census and other archives!...so I am hopeful that local knowledge may help me on my way.
Anyone who can add anything please I would appreciate your help...granny Smith is not a lot to go on!!!
