Drybrook Burials - Name is annotated (reply)

As I was not told which individual record we are referring to here I did a little searching of the Parish Records on this site and it appears that the record in question is the burial of Benjamin BURROWS in 1882 at Drybrook.

The following is what actually is in the transcribers notes for the record: "Name is annotated NY"

Looking at other Drybrook burial records I noticed that a number of them have notes which are similar, such as:

Name is annotated NY
Name is annotated OY
Name is annotated Upper Yd Wm 1 Row 13

My conclusion is that these annotations refer to the locations of the graves. NY being New Yard and OY being Old Yard.

Name is annotated (reply)

The Concise Oxford Dictionary states ANNOTATE - "Furnish (book etc) with notes". So presumably there is a note about the name - pity no-one wants to tell you what the note says! Regards Chris W

Name is annotated

I have just received the folllowing query in an e-mail and I'm not sure of the answer to the question.
Could anybody enlighten us with the meaning of it.

---
What does it mean when it says "name is annotated" on a record? the family I am researching changes
its name from Burris to Burrows on census forms and church records. is this the reason why?
