Lane/Cindry birth certificate, Researching Divorces (reply)

Hi Carol,
I'm no expert on Divorce at all but as I understand it you had to be very wealthy to obtain a divorce in Victorian times, as it was considered a very bad thing to do regardless of the circumstances; were your ancestors wealthy ?.

These links may help you interprete whether or not a divorce would have been a likely/practical cause of action for your kin.

http://www.123helpme.com/women-and-divorce-in-the-victorian-era-view.asp?id=154377

http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~bp10/pvm/en3040/women.shtml

http://www.historyofwomen.org/divorce.html

I briefly looked-up this subject c2011 and I think I read somewhere that one place to search for Divorce records was the London Gazette newspaper, but I'm not certain about this ?.
https://www.british-genealogy.com/threads/56808-How-Do-I-Find-Divorce-records-online

Since then I see that Ancestry have now digitised Victorian Divorce records, see http://www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com/news/explore-thousands-divorce-records-ances...
Looks like the bare-bones of their records are available on the National Archives website.
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/divorces/

-----------

Irrespective of whether George did divorce or not, and sorry for not fully-following this thread, please remind me when and where his marriages apparently took place, to hopefully help us to find records ?

Hope this helps you, J

Lane/Cindry birth certificate (reply)

Emma sindery was my 4th great grandmother - I have her death certificate and marriage certificate to George lane, an interesting story as around 1870 she ran off with William little whom she later married, she had several children with William, and moved to barnsley where she died. George remarried Charlotte sherry? And had several more children with him. I am still searching for a wedding certificate for her and William, and any evidence of a divorce!

Lane/Cindry birth certificate (reply)

I have a death certificate for Tiomothy Lane. He died of typhoid fever on 21st January, 1877, Plump, EastDean. Newnham District, Westbury on Severn. He was age 12, but I haven't yet proved that he was the son of George Lane and (step-son of) Charlotte Sterry.

In the Gloucester Records Office I found an entry in Holy Trinity Church Baptism Register for a Charles George Lane, son of George (deceased) and Charlotte Lane on the 2nd December 1883. Charles was 16 years old and his mother's name is given as Dinah. He was baptised the same day as his half-sister Bessie Abia Lane.

Charles was George;s son, but was he Timothy's brother? Who was Dinah?

Does anyone know, please?

Cynthia
