I am having problems with the 1851 Census but believe this may be the family:

I have checked the original and the transcript is correct. The family in an adjoining household is also name ELLIOTT and I suspect the Enumerator has made an error.

It would appear that Caleb spent some time in Gloucester Gaol:

Finally it would appear that the family has no connection with the Forest of Dean.
Brockworth is near the City of Gloucester and Uley is on the wrong side of the River Severn.

I have my wife's maternal grandfather's birth certificate. Data as follows:

CALEB HOLDER / Brockworth, Glos. / 27 April 1871
Mother: MARIA HOLDER formerly PRICE / Father's profession: Farm Labourer / Registrar: Ambrose Dawson Cookson / Dated Third June 1871 [This is an official copy of the original dated 18 February 1901, Entry No. 249 - Page 50.]

1871 Census records, the year Caleb was born, show the only Maria listed there as only ten years old at that time. Presume this is not the right Maria Holder.

Caleb was later killed in action in France in 1915.
